Hi,

My mare is going to have an operation on her bag legs at the top of the suspensory ligament to cut the fibres so that there is no pain and so fingers crossed it will make her sound..

Does anyon have any experience of this? How long box rest did you have to give? And what was your exercise programme afterwards?

The splitting of the suspensory ligament will allow it to heal where the fibres are not strong enough, but if you post in the vet forum people will reply with their experiences.
You will find a lot of posts about it if you search just that forum for suspensory, and that will give you an idea of how it works and what questions you wnt to ask the vet.

Good luck, hope the op works and the horse comes sound.

If you are talking about a neurectomy, my horse has had it and is fine. This involves cutting the nerves to to the upper suspensory ligament and loosening the fascia around the ligament ( the fascia is a fine membrane encasing the ligament). He is back in full work and seems pain free, which is the point.
