I have a 6 year old Sec C mare, she is a fairly good doer. She is in light work but fairly regularly i.e she is ridden 3/4 times a week for about 30/45 mins. She is mainly living out, on grazing that isnt that good, stands in for the day or comes in at night 2/3 times a week depending on weather, the size of her belly etc. At the moment her weight is spot on imo, but i dont want her any fatter.
She can be fairly easy to wind up when being ridden and has a very short attention span. Since she has been living out i have found her to have slightly less energy, i know she isnt very fit, but she is more than capable of the work she is doing and doesnt really sweat up or get out of breath, she just feels lethergic.
Anyway my question is: I have been feeding her a scoop of D&H Leisure Mix after she is ridden, but on their website it says it is designed to be fed in small quantities and is more for horses in light work or rest.
I was wondering whether Pasture Mix would be better as it is for horses in light to medium work, so may give her the bit more energy she is needing
Basically i am hopeless at knowing what to feed and any help would be gratefully appreciated!
Should i stick do giving her what i am, swap it for pasture mix or any other mix or put her on nuts, should i give her some Hi Fi or ssomething with the mix?
