My horse will be doing a lot more work now, so I will need to change his feed at some point. This has been recommended (rang D&H helpline). Does anyone on here use it, is it any good and how much does it cost?
*I think* it helps the gut get the most out of grass and hay and provides all the vits and mins. I was told by the helpline that I could feed 1lb of this per day with 1lb of alfalfa and 1lb of something like pasture mix, for a 15.3 MW in medium work, living out 24/7 on good grazing with adlib hay. She said that it has high quality protien to build muscle, and has omega 3 & 6 so you don't have to suppliment with oil, but as for putting weight on, I don't know. Bailey's Outshine is a suppliment specifically for putting weight on. When I rang the bailey's helpline, they recommended feeding this with Lo-cal.
The reason the D&H balancer interested me was that it includes a herbal joint suppliment, which I have been considering feeding anyway. He is currently on a hoof suppliment and I was told he would not need this with the balancer. Balancers are expensive, but if you don't have to buy suppliments aswell, it should work out about the same as normal feed.
I used it for yaers as it was a great way of knowing if my horse was getting the correct Vit/Min intake.
I would feed it along with a good chaff, but would add oats as and when I required extra fizz.
It have a probiotic to help with a healthy gut function, has added bits for skin, coat, feet and joints and wont put on weight.
I guess the likes of Lo-Cal, Stammina 30 (sp?) feed balancers are all pretty similar.
