Not really CR but you guys are usually the experts!
Just looking at hiring a few new bits and was wondering what the difference is between a D ring snaffle and an Eggbutt snaffle. They look the same to me so why change the shape of the side ring?
Looking at the Myler range of Eggbutt and D Ring ones, level 2 and 3 mouthpieces - are they dressage legal?
Thanks in advance x

D rings usually give you a little more help with steering. Afraid I don't know much about mylers though

A D-ring gives you some of the benefits of a full cheek in terms of steering and not pulling through the mouth that you don't get with an eggbut.

They are sort of halfway between an egg butt and a full cheek for stability and steering - a good bit for young horses.

Re Myler, though, Drings are the default 'standard' cheek for American hunters - you hardly see egg butts anymore in any context - so they are big sellers for the any company primarily targeting North America. I find it interesting you hardly see them here, though, as above, I find them very good bits for young horses. (Along with "tunnel cheeks" :) )
