Just passing through...
In brief....
Local Rider - Big Cob got a bit stressed, reared a couple of times, we thought they were over backwards at one point (be still my beating heart!). Anyhoo, D2 kept calm and quiet, rode nicely, calmed him down, did a good show (did all that was required in the info we got). Came last. They said she rode very well..., but the Judge said that 'she had to be fair to the others' (!). Horse that came third or fourth (can't remember the placing) was napping and moving around a lot. Winner didn't do the show that had been required, nor did some of the others. Now I would not mind in the slightest if D2 rode badly, or if other riders had been outstanding, no issues at all if that were the case, but it wasn't. It was a riding class, not a showing or dressage class. Judge said she'd speak to me, but we kept missing each other, so I will never know what the rationale was. Definately won't be going to one of those again.
We missed a showing class (my fault, got m'CHAPS and m'BSPS or some such thing mixed up. Too confusing for a simple soul
. Did manage to go in the Lightweight Cob
. They came fifth, which was nay bad considering it was the end of a hot and sweaty day
. They might have come higher if BC hadn't been so hot and tired by then, but never mind, whilst we're not into showing, we could see and understand the thinking behind the decisions
.
We've all decided we won't be doing it all again. It was a fun day and we enjoyed the experience, but the closest we'll get to showing will be the Working Hunter classes
. From now on, WH apart, we'll be going show jumping
. Nice and quantative and we'll know where we are
It was lovely to see some HHO'ers there
. Thank you for all your nice words and for joining the mad entourage that was following D2 and Big Cob around
. And mustn't forget to say Thank You to Friend for lending D2 Big Cob, and to Big Cob for being a star, and to D2 for trying her hardest and riding so nicely and staying bright and positive through the day
And to everyone else who went to watch them today
