Daft accidents your horse has had

Wondering on a lighter note if anyone had any stories of accident prone horses and ponies. My new boy is such a sweety very clever in the school but nooo common sense when near fences etc. If its possible he is magnetically drawn to wooden fences gets his legs n head stuck through them normally when rolling.
Has rolled in ant nests almost on purpose.
Fell over plastic trotting poles bacwards when scared a few wks back got tangled in school fencing
Today think hes been too close to others in feild and jammed his head on fence or summit. Hes a bald bit where star would be nasty swollen bit on nose where noseband would lay and been kicked to side of hock. VERY lucky the vet said. Just avoided needing stitches or being too deep into tissues.
Asked he have anti inflamitorys and anti biotics as hes still not 100% fitness etc since I bought him 3 month ago and is due his final vacciation in 2wks as last owners fell behind. Better safe than sorry and my babe is more than worth it

My welsh a was really full of beans because she only had an hour turnout because of the ice, she was prancing/bucking/rearing and then reared up on a bit of ice and her back legs slipped and she ended up sitting on her bum

We turned ours out for a couple of hours in all the snow earlier this year and one of them rolled and got cast in the snow She managed to get up again fairly easily though, so not too bad.

After months of training for our first 50 mile endurance ride my arab stood on a nail. It was the day before the ride and the nail went straight through his frog. He was in a 30 acre field at the time. And I swear he did it on purpose.

My horse got a metal 5 bar gate stuck on all four legs, he was found lay on his side with the gate attached and luckily lay very still, we had to have the fire brigade out to cut it off, he was very lucky and only had minor cuts that needed stapling. He had bitten straight through his tongue and lip which looked very sore! He was back in work within 4 weeks!

my pretty but dim sec A got stuck upside down in the water trough last winter after having a rearing competition with his feild companion & stepping backwards into it,
he has got his "manbits" trapped between the leg straps on his T/O rug, fallen over his feild companion & got his tail caught on his headcollar buckle.

he really is an accident prone wee bugger but we love him all the same.

My mare also got stuck in the snow this year tho she was 8 months pregnant at the time!!! Found her lying on her back in the deepest snow drift in the entire field with all her mates crowded round her. Legs stuck staight up in the air! We thought she was dead!! But a good push and pull got her up. Silly moo! Foal arrived in may so was obviously none the worse!

Toffee ripped her nostril open and still to this day have no idea how, searched the field and the shelter no blood no nails etc.
I was going out that night so fed them about 4ish rather than 5.30ish and I got a call at 6 saying have you been up the field tonight? I said yes and my friend went suggested I come back up with a vet as it was not a DIY job. I have pictures but its a bit gore.

Horseantics...your poor horse and I'd forgotten..my arab did that too, I'd only had him a week on loan. Nightmare. All four legs like elephant legs for about 2 weeks and frantic phone calls to his owner trying to explain. Aaarrgh!

Got to the field, eye swollen up like a golf ball, rang the vet as I never mess with eyes, vet got there, I'm thinking infection/something stuck, vet had a prod and a poke and said, "she's been using her hoof to get rid of flies, slipped and kicked herself in the head. The swelling is just a black eye".

She was less than a year old to be fair, but I was having a complete heart attack that she was going to lose her eye! It was HUGE!

Oh, another not real injury but silly thing - my OHs horse Frank rolled on a hill the other day. After about 30 attempts, he eventually rolled over so his feet were up the hill. Then he couldnt get up and panicked himself. Had to go and roll him back over....! Daft pony.

I'm obviously drawn to that "type" of horse. Had a horse years ago, that I had from a foal, got tangled in about everything possible, broke into the feed room, got tangled on the way there, ate half a barrel of dry beetpulp, and had no ill-effects, (now, if he'd been expensive, he'd prob have died). the two i have at the moment are so like him, it's not funny, constantly getting stuck in the fence, trying to break out of the field, breaking into the feedroom, eating stuff they are not supposed to, but because they were given as presents to me, and at the present time, i am nearly sure they are worthless, nothing really bad will happen them. It drives me mad, there are times when I'd shoot them, when they do something stupid. But I love them so much, even when I'm mad.

She jumped out of field at uni because it was raining and cut her leg down to the bone..a weeks stay in hospital..and a £2500 vet bill...thankyou Bambee

Galloped through the snow she was so excited forgot the sheep fencing was there went straight through it and cantered round the field with it attatched to her legs...me watching...very scary.came out with a small cut on her leg.

left her in my friends capable hands to look after her at uni while i went home for a matter of hours...i got home and had a phone call saying her head was cut open...never found out how...she had 6 staples in her head!

Ate her whole straw bed..didnt touch her hay..and had an impaction colic.

Shes a very special one, and i love her to bits. Just shes rather expensive at times. Its very tempting to wrap her up in cotton wool.

I have pictures too, but they are a bit gross.

I had a Highland who was very lovely but also very fond of eating! I went to bring him in from his paddock one day and couldn't find him. After a search I found him lying down in the long grass by the fence in the field behind his paddock, with all four legs off the ground - my initial thought was that he was dead but when I ran up to him he was very much alive and busy eating the long grass. We think that the moody mare he shared the paddock with had chased him over the fence but he had managed to get the top strand of plain wire caught round his hooves and then fallen over sideways with his feet still caught in the fencing. There was a big bare patch of grass all round his head where he had just laid there munching. The vet said that his appetite had probably saved him as most horses stuck like that panic and thrash about and do terminal damage to their head/brain. He was very chilled about the whole thing and obviously thought a snack while he waited for rescue was the way to go!

Lol, these are great. I love the likit incident and the black eye. If i was a horse, that would be me

I once left the stable door open for less than 30 seconds with Osc tied next to it. In this time he decided he had best check in there for food, just in case. But his head was attached to the wall via the leadrope. So he ended up wedged sideways on in the doorway having a panic attack. Somehow he was unscathed. He still tries to do it though so i have to be careful, blooming daft animal.

We used to have....notice the word used a 5plus foot brick wall between two stables....my TB.Appaloosa decided it would be fun to get wedged over the wall...god knows how he got there, the wall was right on his private parts he was on his tip toes and his front legs were sprawled. I thought he would panic but the moment i touched him he was fine. i got my Dad to come and see...we were debating the fire brigade to take the roof off. However my hero of a father decided to chizzle away the concrete bricks one by one, eventually we managed to push the rest of the wall over and Harvey was free! little swollen but unharmed...amazing!
When i saw him i know its bad but i couldnt help but giggle..... i wish now i had filmed it it was classic!!
Our two stables then turned to one....

Recently while I was on holiday (horses left in best friends care) my 3 year old climbed over a style, which is in her field and you'd never think a horse could jump over let alone climb over it, then proceeded up 23 man made mud steps and arrived on the yard all by herself ! my YO was in her front garden cutting the grass and couldn't believe her eyes when her head popped up from the mud bank/steps, luckily she only cut her back leg.

Then 3 weeks ago I went down the field to get her in and found her grazing when he lifted her head up as I called her skin under her neck flapped down to reveal a huge hole in her neck, another vet visit later ...........

Before these episodes we have had a tree branch poke in the eye, another vet visit ......

She had a fungal infection which she got from gawd knows where although vet put it down to her stripping the bark off all the trees that line her field, I bought more tubes of canasten in that month than i've ever bought in my life - I had to keep changing chemists as it was so embarrasing buying them 2 at a time and the amount of times I was asked if I had just vaginal itching or discharge aswell was behond belief - I could have shot her at that time

Oh damn i thought i had the really horrible ones of her leg but i dont they must be on my old phone which i cant get off...but you can see the head ones instead.poor bay girl.

Just as she was found...the vets think she suffered some concussion too as she was rather wobbly even before sedation!

My old long retired point to pointer was in his stable . In his day he was as fast and sharp as anything on the track.One of the girls said "oh maybe youd like to give him his feed".Yup, will do.Wandered over .Clicked the bolt back. ......... He was having one of his "flash back moments"(probably did too much drugs in the 60,s). Silly *******s comes out of the stable like out of the starting stalls!!!!!!!!!!!!I am flattend by the door!He gallops off, into the main stable yard. "loose horse" oh its him "Loose lunatic"!!Gates are slammed shut. No where to go,Silly *******s climbs up into the hay barn , At 20 feet up ,the cool air hits him and he looks around,the expresion on his face was first ,oh thats better, then AAAAARGHAbout this point ,the haystack collapsed and horse plummeted with tons of hay. I freely confess that I did not exactly rush to save my horse.I have numerous scars and fractures courtesy of those hooves. Fortunately an extremely brave vet on the scene(Mike Byers )Dived on him and pinned him down while we cut all the baler twine he was entangled with. Mike gave him a seddative to calm him down and he was as right as rain.!This incident was years ago and Mike has probably long forgotten it,but I havent. Definately a Vet to have on your side when the chips are down.

Daughter's horse managed to get stuck over the breast bar of the trailer with his back legs dangling off the floor - then came out through the jockey door and emerged with just a few scrapes and scratches. Two weeks later they were at an eventers' challenge competition with the polyjumps plastic xc jumps and he got his foot caught between the plastic slats of an arrowhead filler. He then reared up and landed and got the other foot caught in it too. He then reared in panic about 3 more times, dancing towards the collecting ring which panicked all the ponies lined up against the ropes to see him waltzing towards them on his back legs waving an arrowhead at them! The only damage he did was knock off a scab from the previous mishap!

Ah yes I have used Mike also I agree totally like his style. Actually thought of him when I saw you r user name as I was in touch with him this wk about a previous horse he really saved my skin with.
