Ever have a completely daft moment where you spook at something that usually the horse would have spooked at? Was leading the ginger back out to the field when two pigeons flew out of a bush and scared the daylights out of me - horse looked over with a 'what is wrong with you!?' expression, and didn't give a rat's furry bum about the commotion. Glad no one else was around to see me jump though.....
Anyone else spook at something while their horse remained totally calm? :D

Not anymore, but I used to! He doesn't bat an eyelid at anything nowadays and it's more 5 minutes after going past something extremely scary [ie - it should at least get a wary look at from a horse!] I'm usually like 'Oh oops. Normal horses would normally have reacted slightly to that.....!' As I'm sat there one handed on the buckle, oblivious..... :p

Yes. Only about 3 days ago. Tweaked my hamstring. Told everyone it was a riding injury and my friend at the yard promised she would back up my (preposterous) lie that it had happened while my veteran and 95% retired Sunny was tackling the hurdles set up in one of our fields. What actually happened was that I was leading a very well behaved youngster to a new field. Lots of brambles round the gate. I tread on a long snaking bramble on the ground with my left foot. Right foot then catches in the bramble and I fall forwards, frantically trying to a) hold young horse b) keep out of his way c) stay upright and d) not look stupid. YO behind me peeing herself laughing. Managed a, b and c but totally failed d. Ho hum :-)

All the time :)

I took my boy to work to use the arena the other day, and one side is lined with a hedge. I've never ridden him along side a hedge like that before, so when I was walking him around to warm him up, I had my foot in the hedge making noise so he wouldn't freak out so much. After a while, when it was quite dark, I was walking back down the hedge to turn the lights on, and a Pukeko flew at his face and across the arena to the paddocks. Didn't bat an eyelid. Me on the other hand, absolutely shat bricks :D

I was once riding out on a particularly nervous horse with a friend on a confidence giver on the outside. Horse was spooking and jumping at mouse farts! Almost home and in the hedge ahead was a dreaded plastic bag which fluttered just as we got level with it. Anticipating a huge spook I moved right only to have him totally ignore it so I nearly fell down the gap between the two horses!

Once she finished laughing and I had regained my seat she pointed out that 'I' had just spooked at a plastic bag! Took me a long time to live down!!

Yesterday.... and the day before that, and the day before that, and the day before that (you get the idea!)

Back to yesterday. I took another girl out with her youngster. They have been doing a lot of bombproofing and she is getting loads better, but we went round a new ride for her so out I went on my 100% dependable not to spook in ANY situation cob as a nanny.

On this ride we had to cross a railway where there wasn't a level crossing. You just ring the control box to check if any trains were due. As we approached we heard a train whistle, and as youngster had never been that close to the track, as a train passed we stood about 15m back both facing the track.

Youngster took her confidence from Ellie, (who normally stands next to the track and ignores the train) and stood like a very very brave rock. Once it passed we started to walk towards the crossing ready to ring to ask if the coast is clear. We could still hear the train as it drove off but thought nothing of it.

As we got to about 5m away from the track a train going in the opposite direction "leaped" out from behind the hedgerow by the track and sped past us. We hadn't seen it and had assumed the noise was from the other train.

Both the other owner and I absolutely pooped ourselves (I must have nearly jumped out of the saddle!!) "The two horses?" I hear you ask... nothing, not even a muscle twitch! They were probably two steps ahead and had seen/heard it and were prepared!

Made us feel very sheepish though! Rising four youngster with terrified rider did nothing, riders embarrassed themselves!

Well, we definately have another dependable superhacker in the making!
