Hello

Does anyone have any views on the Dainese body protectors? I have never ridden in a body protector, I am getting back into the saddle after almost 20 year and I thought I should probably get one. I dont do any jumping, mostly school work and plodding around the village - I am not a confident rider and always thought a body protector would make me feel less able to move freely and so less confident! I have found the Dainese body protectors and a back protector and they look pretty good and more comfortable than the average body protector.

There is the waistcoat which appeals the most to be as it is the least bulky but doesnt offer any protection on the front https://www.dainese.com/gb/en/eques...81_color=BLACK&cgid=equestrian-safety#start=1

or there are these 2 full body protectors https://www.dainese.com/gb/en/eques...78_color=BLACK&cgid=equestrian-safety#start=1

This one must offer more protection and I have found it on a really good offer online but i dont know if this one will be too restrictive for me??

Any advice would be much appreciated!

I have a level 2 one I use for hacking. You don't even know you are wearing it, it's so light and comfortable. I have one with more protection for jumping though but find it too restrictive to wear evryday. The Dainese is a good compromise and better than nothing. It goes in the washing machine too from time to time on a delicates wash and comes out fine. Think it is an older version than the one you are looking at.

Only the last one can be used for competing in. The first two are not safety marked in any way - not even at BETA level 1 or 2.

From a previous post you want to start wearing a body proetctor becuase you had a bad fall? Do consider the trade off between being light with the fact that it simply will not protect you to the same extent as a certified product. Its your decicion of course - but for me spending well over £100 on something that will make limited- if any - difference in a fall would not be a sensible option.

I recently bought a Dainese Milton Soft II and I wear it for lessons to try to get my body used to it.

I wear it over a long-sleeved cotton shirt, which is over a cotton tee shirt.

My movement is not restricted at all, but it's a bit warm.

I'm a bit confused by what I read in the product description on Amazon.co.uk:

Conforms with CE standard 13158: 2009, level of performance 1: buoyancy providing the lowest level of protection, considered only suitable for jockeys made redundant for groceries

I have the one you have posted first. It's great as it isn't bulky or restrictive, I find that the restrictive ones make me feel quite claustrophobic and actually give me back ache as I sit differently when wearing it.

It is the pay off between safety and comfort though.

I've got one of the waistcoat style ones that I think is actually designed for motor bike riding. I got it second hand from eBay so it wasn't expensive. It's nice to wear - once it's on I forget about it. I haven't tested it by falling off and I very much hope it stays that way. I think the protection down the spine would be reasonable even though it doesn't register for competition use.
