As the title really, I have a Dales X Cob who is 15.1 with 9.5 inches of bone, I have put a weight tape around him today and he is 511KGS. What do you think he should be and if you have this type what does yours weigh.

I have put him on a bit of a diet to get him ready for the spring grass, he is fed one normal sized net of heyledge and a small net of heyledge at night, he is out for most of the day. He has a cup of low-cal and a handful of dengie hifi twice a day.

He is ridden three times a week at the moment but this will increase as the lighter nites come.

Thanks for reading and your advice welcome.

Hi I dont have a dalesxcob but just for comparison, I have a MW cob, not very heavy really. 14.3 and currently weight tapes at 438-40 kg, he is 'good' on the condition score and you can feel ribs but not see them, no crest or 'apple bottom'

He also only hets one hey net at night, quite a decent amount (night net has been soaked for the past 3 weeks for the whole day or at least an hour. Has a token jesture morning net and is turned out in a bare field for 5-6 hours a day.

He is on one hand full of hifi lite or good doer 2x a day with one cup of top spec balancer. Is ridden 5 days a week, hacked, schooled, jumped.

I would say his weight at the moment is 'good' but he remains on a diet as over summer he will ballon.

I have a 15hh Welsh cob and he currently weighs 450kg on the weight tape, and this is a little heavy for him ideally. He will loose this as I start to ride him in the week when it is lighter and his ideal weight is 435 - 440 and no more.
My lad is currently ridden twice per week hacking - due to dark am and pm. He is out on a bare paddock and strip grazed daily during the day and then in at night on 1 third of a bale of hay fed from the floor and soaked. His feed consists of 2 handfuls of dengie to put his vit/min supplement into. He has this routine all year only once the grass starts to grow, he will no longer be strip grazed and will just have to find bits to nibble on as they grow through.

I have a 14.3hh cob (think she is fell x traditional cob). At the end of the summer she was 538kg on the weigh tape. We are currently on 504kg and still on a diet. Hopefully I will be able to ride more now the days are getting longer.
She is turned out in the day and gets soaked hay at night and a handful of Spillers high fibre nuts.

I have a 14.2 Dales/coloured - and she's weighing 520kg on the weigh tape. No crest, no gutter and I can feel ribs. Normally the vet comments on her weight, but was out yesterday and thought she looked fine......... ??????
When she's at 500kg, she's lean, like an eventer, looks like a dachshund (too long and stretched out, a bit 'cut and shut') and her temper is diabolical. I'd say that she's ok as she is.
She is not really good doer - she tends to be stressy, and gets a soaked haynet at night (dust control), and a scoop of Alfa A, a half dose of Top Spec and a dollop of oil daily.

God knows what she'd be like if she weighed what the other horses on this thread weigh..... Maybe Star has a double D ribcage :D She certainly takes up my 31" inside leg.
