can i ask if anyone knows how best to find dam or sire details for my mare... ive tried the irish sport horse society and basically got sent from pillar to post. having no success. i dont have any details on her at all, there is no further name other than tilly.. no number or letters to her name.
i would be very grateful if anyone could assist as im at a lost end. i would like to get her passport changed to an irish one but i need to find details first. they say any detail would be an advantage.. she has a pet id passport and was passported at 3years.. previous owner is now uncontactable.

her passport states she is an irish sport horse but thats all i have.

unfortunatley likely hood is if she hasnt got a reg name then she probably of unknown breeding. Is there a breeders address on the passport?

Unless you can track her back through previous owners I dont think there is much you can do, the chances are she may not even be Irish that could have just been put on the passport when it was issued.
Most Irish horses of known breeding have their passports done as foals, they are DNA typed and microchipped at the same time. Does she have a microchip? that would be the only other way of tracing her.

hi, yes she has a microchip but i had that done when i purchased her. the only details i have is a previous owner who had the passport issued. but i can not seem to contact him.
there are no breeder details in the passport either. i have even tried contacting the vet who issued the passport but no luck there either...

I have tried to find out my mares parentage but the society required at least 1 name (either dam or sire sides) to try to prove her breeding lines. Since she was abandoned at the yard there was nothing to go on.

They can blood test, but there again they still need a breeding line to work on as there are endless possibilities!

The only way is to get hold of the breeder, but if there are no details on the passport of the breeder you may not beable to find out.

You have my sympathies. I am in a similar situation with my gelding. His is part-bred Spanish and I have been trying to find out more about him. He is branded and all we we know is he was imported as a 4yr old from Seville. I have tried BAPSH on a few occasions but I never get to speak to anyone. I have left phone messages but no one has got back to me and I have emailed them more than once sending photos of his branding. I have never had a reply. I do have his Tarjeta Sanitaria (Health Certificate) but that is all and there are no details of his sire/dam. I would love to know more about him and if possible get him registered with BAPSH, or even better get him a BAPSH Passport - the poor boy currently has a Donkey Society Passport (thanks to previous owner). Sorry, this is far longer than I intended, I didn't mean to hog your post!
