I hack out alot in the very busy traffic with my Tilly 16.2 hh Bay thoughbred, I have never yet or my horse caused and damage to anyones property, even though someone stoped there car in busy traffic at traffic lights only a matter of innches of my horses hocks.hmmm how tilly never kicked out his grill was a matter of luck really.

Has one ever had a experience of something happening while out hacking or ina school.

Always get ignorant twits scraping right up close to pass us, even when im signalling taht ill turn into the next gateway

or they fly round the corner and slam on brakees when the see us

or overtake us and nearly crash head on into oncoming car, swerving into us

Yeah, loads when I lived in Reading!!!

Where I am now I had an idiot stop me to ask directions on a single track lane!! My horse sat on his landrover discovery!!!OOPS!!!!! Fortunately she wasnt hurt but the landrover was!! My insurance paid up as I was liable as she hit a stationary vehicle!! The fact she had no choice was irrelevant!!

i find that if i carry a schooling whip and they pass too close a sharp bang on the roof of the car with the whip gives me great satifaction!!!!! Makes them jump out of their skin! very bad i know - gives riders a bad name but to those idiot drivers who pass too close we already are nothing to them!

yeah, one of the guys at the yard does this

my fave is this woman once had a rant about horse poop on the roads and how it was a health hazard

vix just said "well as long as you only eat a little bit at a time, your health shouldnt suffer" that shut her up

thanks for all your replys, I find it a great concern that some drivers act this way towards horses and there riders, when I am driving anywhere near a rider I pass them at the slowest of speeds and give them a very wide birth, and then sometimes will pull over on the side of the road and will not pass at all until they are out of sight, But when this car pulled up behind my tilly so stupidily close I could not thing of anything else than Petplan for some reason....lol, she was so good and did not let it borther her other then the odd turn of of her head.

Believe it or not, myself and a friend once got stopped by a policeman because my mare had dumped in the street

He said "do you realise if your horse was a dog you would be fined?" - WTF

He also pointed out that the Household Cavalry have someone go along behind them picking up the poo's (we are talking rural Cornwall compared to Central London - bit of a difference). I think I was expected to ride along with a shovel on my back

Just shows you how times have changed really, people would of loved free horse poo for the old garden, they would of more than often beaten the owner to it....lol

Going on from carrying the schooling whip - I have a piece of bright/flourescent material tied on the end of mine - so just need to move wrist slightly and it sticks out in the road and cars cant avoid it (well they do so at their peril as they really wouldnt want Maloo to sit on their bonnet!!!!) Maloo doesnt seem to worried about it either!

My youngester on her first ride out. I walked her out and got on and rode her back. She took 3 steps back, the parked car was only 2 steps back and she is 17hh! Opse, I had to go round after the ride and find out whos car it was so I could pay for it to be fixed.

I did have one muppet driving up the lane to our yard, it only goes there and 1 farm, its narrow for one car. I could hear him comming, but there was nothing I could do and no where to get out the way. He stopped with the horses head over the top of the bonnet. He did apologise, said he wasn't expecting a horses to be there. On the way back from our ride the same car is doing the same speed coming straight at us again. This time on a stright bit of road so he could see us quite a distance. Unfortunately my steering just seems to have failed at that moment, meaning I had to ride up the centre of the road and he had to taken his boy racer car with all its low trim over the tree roots and bricks, opse!

I also rode a little mare who slipped and her bum went out slighly, the car was that close that it cliped her back end and we both eneded up on the floor in a heap.

I did have to whack a car on the windscreen last week as he was that close.

yup, a car tried to squeeze down a road only big enough for one car (he was in a people carrier) i was on a horse i had never ridden before. he stoped and my horse turned her hindquarters in and kicked out at the car... causing a dent!! that will serve him right
