Evening all,

Can anyone tell me if it is advised that back protectors are replaced after a serious fall in the same way as hats - have never seen anything about this so am not sure??

Thanks

I've fallen off numerous times and have yet to replace my BP (or my hat

) but obviously do if it breaks, dents or rips!

humm..shouldn't have thought so, because they are not made of 'shell' type material like riding hats so shouldn't crack...if that makes sense?!

Dottie, that was my thinking exactly - but mother of girl who had nasty fall recently seems to think she may have to replace - she is buying new hat as this was fractured but body protector seems OK to me.

I think you are ideally supposed to replace them every 5 years or so because the 'padding' can get brittle and loose it's shock absorbency, but i don't think you need to after a fall?

I sit on the Britsih Standards Committee for back protectors and once they have suffered an impact they should be replaced. The materials they are made of are designed to absorb the destructive energy once but after that they will be damaged and should be replaced.

I had heard they should be replaced but to be honest at about £70 a time I dont think many people would replace either regularly!!! Especially as the body protector would still work.... how many times do you fall on the same part of your body??

I try to save money by not falling off
