Damaged knee

Hi guys, my ever accident prone TB came in with yet another injury to on Friday evening. His off fore knee was pretty huge. He has taken the skin off above knee - doesnt look angry & has scabbed over. He has a couple of nicks at the top of both front legs on the inside, almost looks like he may have caught himself up in something, but he could have just caught himself when rolling.
He is comfy on leg & not sore, albeit a little stiff after hosing it.
Swelling has spread down leg, to fetlock now. I spoke to vet Sat morning, she advised that as swelling was going down leg, not to worry as this is it just following gravity, and that she would be more concerned if swelling moving up leg.
This morning it is much the same, although I think knee area has gone down a bit, still pretty swollen towards bottom of leg.
I am cold hosing twice a day for 20 mins. Anything else I can do? Vet says to leave him out & just keep an eye.
Am not sure whether he has had a kick, or pulled it, or wrapped himself up in something. Swelling is soft & pliable - not solid. Doesn't seem like anything is infected. How long before I should become more worried?!

He should be on antibiotics, why has your vet not been out to see him? The swelling could be cellulitis and if its not infected now it soon will be with all that fluid sitting there. Much better to act before you "get worried" and prevent the worse happening.

My "accident prone " TB got kicked in the field the day i got back off holiday ! put him on bute and cold hosed for 5 days.Swelling hadn't gone down so called the vet he said that because of where it is ( right near the knee) it will probably take a bit longer ot go down. SO put him on Equi soemthng which is about 25 x stronger than bute and gave me gel (think it's called compagel) so did that and carried on with the cold hosing and 2 weeks later am riding again.
Although I do echo that you need to watch out for cellulitis unfortunat;y it is another TB trait !!

Sam22 - I don't believe he should be on antibiotics unless an infection is suspected - which it isn't. He will of course have them should the vet think he needs them.

Cellulitis is something which worried me.

However over the last day or 2 swelling has gone right down. Only area still swollen is around his actual knee. He is not sore & am continuing to cold hose. I can see the outline of what was probably a kick now & a bit of a bump.
Vet is happy for me to monitor as at this stage they dont feel anything else needs to be done.

My 4 yr old came in with a kick on Monday. I have been cold hosing and have given bute.
I'm not worried at the moment as I had been away all weekend with my other horse who came home and kicked little un! This has happened before when they have been seperated for a while. Horses!!!
