Rory is STILL lame despite being only lead walked, swimming for 10mins a day, being on a double dose of Corta-vet and wearing a magnetic collar. He's off to the vet's tonight - I can only assume it's not arthritis as he has worsened if anything since westarted him on all these things and surely arthritis would have improved? He hasn't been sound since he was hit by the car but it's not just his shoulder now, his hips are going too. (He had good hip scores as a pup so it's not bred in or inherited before I get a rant!!) The vet suggested that it might be OCD and that joint injections could be an option?

Hmmmm would be interested to see what more could be done if it is OCD . Another operation might be in order. You are doing all the right things but our dog responded well to both the Cartrophen injections and acupuncture...plus of course Synoquin...Keep us updated and best of luck. I shall post the link to the Cartrophen website.

He's in for x-rays todaay of hips, stifles and hocks... Vet wouldn't discuss arthritis/OCD until they have x-rays

Well..my faith in hip scoring is some what knocked. He's got Osteochronoditis in both hips and arthritic changes showing...now on Metacam injectibles, Vet-flex and restricted exercise...and he's never allowed to go riding again.

If he was hip-scored at 12-18 months & had a good score, his current problems may well be more than partly due to being hit by the car!
However, even if OCD was present at the time of his original hip x-ray, it may well not have been detected, due to the angle of the hips for a simple standard hip x-ray, for scoring purposes (have to be extremely precise multiple angles to diagnose OCD) & of course, it is not something they would have been looking for at the time!

Is this your Gordon Setter/GS x? A breed sadly notorious for OCD occurence unfortunately!
I would not be too quick to lose faith in the hip-scoring system, as I think poor Rory has been the victim of an ironic & unfortunate coincidence as much as anything!

What was his hip score anyway, btw?

I am so sorry and presume that an opertation is non viable. As Jak says the ocd can be due to trauma amongst a million and one other things. Hopefully the metacam will help enormously. How old is he by the way??

Trauma from his car crash (Yes this is Rory the GSx) was all centered around his front end.. his shoulder and neck.

JAK he came up as A2/7 at 13 months....

He seems much better on the Metacam atm..though his exercise is still restricted.
