Gah! So frustrated with the bloomin flies that are currently feasting on the ponies as if they're a walking buffet

Luke's sheath was literally covered in the things last night(thank heavens for sudocrem), and SWUO's chest had a dozen or more blood spots where they'd bitten her

All of this is despite them practically being bathed in fly spray

Now I cannot be there every night covering them head to toe in sudocrem, cos a) they'd look silly, and b) it's just a stupid thing to do!

Does feeding the neds garlic ACTUALLY help repel the flies? Do these fly rug/kool koat things do the trick of providing atleast some relief from the pesky critters?
I have definitely had enough of them, as have the ponies.

Any ideas?

xx

fly rugs do help as one of the horses at the yard reacts badly to fly bites and with the rug on she is no where near as bad but still gets the odd bite here and there when she is ridden

hope that helps

Fly rugs, feed marmite/brewers yeat/viatmin B12 tablets and use NetTex Summer slave on sheaths

We use fly rugs as got fed up with spraying them with fly repellent to see them covered in flies still 5 minutes later. So sick of the horseflies when out hacking that am seriously thinking of getting one of the Bug Armour riding fly sheets too.

Try making this, just found recipe off another forum!!
* half a pint of really strong tea (about 4 tea bags)
* 4 table spoons of vinegar
* 15 drops of citronella or tea tree oil

apparently it works wonders and lasts ages.i dont know as ive not tried it yet but its worth a go!! xxx

I've tried garlic, and it has had NO effect on ours. I use a fly sheet on one with sweetitch but the rest are just sprayed monthly with Deosect. No flies around here now!
