Gah - I'm kicking myself!
For this shooting season I have been borrowing a neighbour's spaniel for picking up every Saturday - I've taken him four times so far along with Flyn (Toby is retired).
He's great, we've really bonded and its working really well
I guess it works both ways because they are pleased to have someone experienced working their dog which will do them good when they come to work him eventually. They want me to take their other dog too but not yet, he's a bit young to work on such a big commercial shoot.
Every Friday I always ring them out of courtesy to check that its ok to take him in the morning but today I totally forgot - Damn
I've just rung them now - its far too late, they are quite elderly and will be up very early to go hunting in the morning. So I left a message to apologise for the lateness and perhaps leave a note on his kennel to say if its ok or not.
I feel really bad now, I so hope they don't think I am taking advantage or becoming too familiar - its awkward
Thankfully I actually popped into the farm supplies shop today and bought them a bag of dog food as a thank you which I was going to leave in their food shed.
Sorry, just rumbling to myself at being such a plonker
