Safety wear is not safe! Well at least not for me

!

Was out for a nice leisurely stroll with Beau this evening, just walking along when I spotted a cyclist coming up the path to where we were. The nice lady was all decked out in reflective jackets etc so I spotted her early.

Unfortunately so did Beau!

We got to about 2 feet away from where she had stopped when out of the blue beau went down and round and I was out the side door.........after being dragged (I had twigs in my knickers - not nice!) and then kinda flung onto my head!
The wee monster then canter off, found the best patch of grass and chowed down.
Lady in reflective jacket was very nice, but I couldn't understand a word she was saying as she was dutch(or thereabouts), but I was upset and angry that I came off, but not at her as she did the right thing.
And of course he showed me up by then letting this lady approach and talk to him, and he went to look at the bike. WEE MONKEY!

But I got back on and carried on with my hack as I felt fine. Now I dont feel so fine

. Fell asleep in the cinema earlier (in the middle of The Hills Have Eyes 2) and have the mother of all headaches, and I feel like I am on a boat in a force 10 gale, my size is all red and raw and so are my knees

. I can feel my muscles seizing up as we speak and I just wish my OH was here to give me cuddles but he had to go home.

Thats twice in 6 days I've come off. Ive had him 2.5 years and last fell off in March 2005!! I was doing fine until now - pah!
I was going to attempt a gallop on him, but they say bad things come in 3's! And I did what I was recommended and upped his feed by half a scoop (apparently happy hoof wont make him fizzy - yeah right!) HALF A SCOOP! What a loon

Horses !!! Who'd have em!

Ouch!

Might be worth getting yourself checked over for concussion? Better safe than sorry and as for that horse of yours, hang reflectives up in his stable or field!

Hope you feel better soon.

Perhaps you should get him used to one by wearing one yourself. It is unfair to blame another road user who has been responsible.

Hi Viz wear saved the life of my friend and my horse a few weeks ago when a speeding lorry spotted then in only just enough time to skid to a halt inches from them. If they had not been wearing HI Viz the driver would have seen them 3 secs later and most likely they would both be dead.

Sorry you have hurt yourself but I found the title of your post and the sentiment expressed very irresponsible.

Harsh words but I have been hit twice by vehicles, once whilst on a bridleway and feel VERY strongly that all vulnerable road users should wear Hi Viz to give them a chance against traffic.

It may not have been the reflective jacket....could well have been the bicycle...lots of horses don't like them very much & the reflective jacket could have drawn his attention to it. He should be used to jackets surely, you wear one to ride out in don't you?

Have to agree with others - sorry you have fallen off again, esp after 2 years of not coming off (lucky u). But, I think you should change the post title or erm rephrase things. The issue was your horse's spookiness at either the bike or the jacket but saying damn reflective jackets isnt a brilliant example. One saved my friend's (and her horse's) life and in my opinion some kind of reflective clothing should be worn as standard when riding. Hope you feel better soon though.

look on the bright side-you've ahd your three falls, if things happen in threes thats it now

hope your head is feeling better

Probably the bike that did it, my horse isn't keen on bikes but will tolerate them if they are being ridden sensibly, but if a younger person should do a wheelie near him (and this happened on more than one occassion before we moved yards) - that turns the bike into a big scary monster that will eat him!!

My horse hates fluorescent things. Once this man appeared at the yard in a lovely (!) fluorescent shellsuit. Mickey was trying to eat him when this man approached the stable. Then the other day I rode down the track only to find the neighbours had installed a small football net, with fluorescent patches on (presumably targets to aim for when kicking the ball). Well that was VERY exciting for Mickey let me tell you. He definitely has a thing about fluorescents but I do wear a vest in the yard before I go out hacking so he gets to see one then. I think he will always find the bright colour slightly alarming though.

dont wear one when on the railway line as no cars, but do have a bright purple jacket I wear.
He is fine with bikes, never spooked at one before and this one was the plainest grey u could get. I think iw eas just that this was a MASSIVE yellow jacket the lady had on( as she should have). He went through a phase of being terrified of Blue things - it was very bizarre.
I did have my vest hanging up in front of his stable so he is used to them. He was just being a total twit!

No riding today though as I am still feeling sick and headachy, so he has had a day off and no feed so will find out tomorrow if it is the spring high junks kicking in!
