Anyone else's horse suffer with this?

I have a 14.2hh welsh x arab who is 14 who suffers with dreadful dandruff. He lives out in summer and in at night in winter, he is fit and healthy. It also makes no difference if I clip him. I have another horse who doesn't have any issues with it so I dont think.. (?) it is anything I am doing?!

Any ideas? I would be v greatful!

Nothing out of the ordinary but some horses do develop this sort of skin condition on alfalfa. Since yours is on a diet rich in alfalfa, I would try to eliminate this first as it is a common culprit.

Replace the alfalfa fibre with speedibeet and a grass chaff. You could add linseed to replace the protein in the alfalfa. It also has a good balance of Omega oils which is good for laminitic. I gave my laminitic linseed without a problem.

since when has hifi lite and hdf cubes been high in alphalpha??????????? i would suggest a good shampoo in vosene/head and shoul;ders every week to 10 days, and a glug of oil in feed.

Since it says on the ingredients list for hi if lite.

Also it's ALFALFA.

My horse gets really bad dandruff along the line of his mane, but then I began checking the other horses at my yard and a bit of dandruff seems to be the norm, although my TBs was much worse than theirs. Iv tried microbial shampoos as he gets rain scald too and it sorts it out for a while but always comes back. He's fed speedibeet too. It doesn't bother him and doesn't affect the condition of his mane, so I just give it a wash every now and again to stop it getting too bad.
