Danilon and stomachs

Day 4 of one sachet a day and the cow kicking has started. At least these days she's polite enough to waggle the leg in my direction rather than belt me with no warning.

Vet wants her on it until Sunday to see if we can loosen her up enough to get her back into a decent level of work (8 weeks off now after tying up - never seen her this tight behind). Usual bodywork is only having a short term effect, so danilon and likely robaxin as next step.

Anyone ever had any luck feeding 'something' (anything!) to help calm the stomach with danilon? She has a history of ulcers which doesn't help.

I used protexin on mine when he was on long term bute and antibiotics, it seemed to help, when he was in rehab for his SI injury I massaged him daily using a gel, no idea if it made any difference but he enjoyed it and it seemed to loosen him up, not sure it will help with yours but could be worth a try as they help us with certain types of pain and stiffness.

Thanks BP - I'll try that. Her hamstrings are solid and she's trotting like both her hind legs are made from wood right now. I've got protexin, should have thought of it earlier.....

Science Supplements Gastrokind is good stuff. I have one of mine (with a history of ulcers) on it permanently and used it for another when he was on box rest and Bute after tendon surgery. It helps produce a barrier to protect the stomach lining and has a lot of science behind it.

My first mare was a typical ulcer-prone ex-racehorse, and the thing that really seemed to settle her stomach and prevent a recurrence was Ron Fields Ulcer-Ex. She went from having reasonably frequent episodes of spasmodic colic to nothing at all from the time I put her on this until the time I lost her.
