Does anyone one know how long the pain relief effect of Danilon is? If a 700kg horse had 2 sachets early Wednesday afternoon & another 2 sachets on Thursday morning would you expect it to be making him more comfortable on sore feet by this morning? Tomorrow morning?

Danilon was given on vet instruction but I forgot to ask how long it would effect him. I'm moving him at the weekend & I don't want to turn him out in the softer field if the Danilon's still effecting him because he'll run around & possibly cause more damage. I'm keen to get him out though as he's starting to get cross & bolshy, plus the longer he's in the more likely he is to do something stupid when he does go out.

Danilon starts to work about 1 hour after its been eaten and it lasts for 12 hours. I may have miss understood but from what you have written it sounds like the last time your horse had any was thursday morning, in which case it would have stopped working by thursday evening and will not be working today or tomorrow.

The vet is quite sure it's not laminitis Sam22, he has a history of foot problems & previous x-rays mean we know what the problem is. He struggles on very hard ground - I underestimated how bad the field was & how little he could cope with it. This has now been remedied but I didn't want him going out in a new field & undoing all the good that a few days box rest has done. I've put him back on the Danilon this afternoon since he was calm on his few hours out this morning & I don't want him uncomfortable if there's no need.

Thanks for the idea Sam22 but we tried a few different types of pads years ago & he can't/won't tolerate them. Nothing is ever straightforward with this lad! He isn't ok yet, but he's much happier for a few hours out & with him what goes on in his head seems to have a huge influence on his body. I'll probably lead him round the school a bit tomorrow to get that hind leg working (vet said to ride him but I have my doubts atm) & make him feel like he has a job - looking at him move today it's hard to believe that less than a fortnight ago he was cantering sideways up the road with his hinds so under him that someone thought he was jumping & bucking :(
