Finally got him off the premises today, and got my cash. He showed me some right rubbish as a possible exchange on Sunday, and also one he wanted a further 7000euros on top of what he'd already had for D! However that particular horse was advertised on the internet for only 3500 euros more than I paid for D

, seriously! He also tried to sell me his lorry.... granny thrown in too I wouldn't be surprised

. Oh, and D was diagnosed as having arthritis in both front feet, untreatable

.

So back to trawling through millions of unsuitable ads in the serach for something half decent that I could make some money on to keep Wills as an eventer and not a field ornament!

Glad you got your money, dealer sounds a right one. Sadly the one that suffers most in all this is the horse, bet you see him readvertised for the next unsuspecting person, sincerely hope not but probably very likely.

It is sad isn't it? Someone should have had the decency to put him down a while ago.

Off topic rather, but has anyone come straight out and asked "why the low price" to sellers? Have seen some that appear to tick boxes but suspiciously cheap, question is do you ask why or not?!

Glad it has worked out OK for you in the end (though not perhaps for the poor horse).

Better luck 2nd time around, are you looking for a 4yo or something with a few miles on the clock.

Absolutely! Why not? If someone is selling they should be prepared to answer any and all questions truthfully. Ha ha.

Seriously, I think it's worth asking ANY question straight out, first because most people will waffle rather than lie outright, secondly, if they do lie outright and it goes wrong you have a clear position (What, me, a cynic?) and thirdly (most important to me) even if people don't give you a straight answer the answer they do give can be very illuminating. I often find what people don't say as interesting as what they do. And most people, if you just ask and then hold your own tongue, will tell you a lot more than they intend to.

Of course this doesn't work as well when you're dealing with professional sellers but in some ways they have more to lose by lying to you anyway.
