Well my nemesis the Boxer turned up who Darcy has issues with but I spent quite a lot of time with her before the exam started. With my trusty clicker and lots of treats she was sniffing her bum in no time.:)

Only 3 of us turned up for the exam and Darcy performed beautifully as did the Boxer. My friends dog had 2 tries at the one minute stay but she just kept barking and moving about. Afterwards the examiner told us that Darcy and the Boxer had passed and my friends dog wasnt ready. As we were leaving the examiner said he would give my friend another chance and he passed her.

Whilst Im pleased for my friend I feel a bit let down because I feel the exam has been devaulued. Still the car journey home was a happy affair and might have been a bit awkward if her dog hadnt passed.

My friend know wants to try for the silver in the Autumn as she says she has the competition bug.

Yay for darcy! well done. Dobes Rock!!
My Cara doesn't like Boxers either, they are too bouncy and in her face for her liking. She just keeps away from them if she can.

Whoop, whoop, well done :)

Can I bask in your reflected glory? :o.

I did my bronze award the other week with Stanley the IG. There were 8 of us at the exam and all the other owners said would I take it personally if they didn't stand near me because Stan is such a distraction :o:D. I must admit, he is a bit of a delinquent :).

Anyway, we did the test and when it came to the stay, I usually clipped him to the wall. Examiner said no, you've got to leave him lose. I managed to stand on his lead before he did a runner and she then said leave your dog. I did, with a very firm "stay" and as chaos descended around us, Stan just stood there. When she said "return to Stanley", it didn't really register BUT, he was the only one who completed the stay and therefore the only one to pass!!!

I was gob smacked and bought him a nice new bed as a reward :D:D .... he'd taken his last one outside and shaken it to death :p:D.

Yay, go Darcy and Dobiegirl!!!

I know how you feel about someone else doing a wonky test - the dog I was paired with on our BH had a massive go at B when we reported in (he didn't have a go back, miraculously!) and got up during the long down, started walking towards his handler and she started shouting at him while we were doing a particularly tricky bit of distance control and she kind of drowned out my commands :o
...however their heelwork was good, ours was...interesting, I lost count of my steps because the judge kept telling me to 'smile more', I got a bit lost during the pattern (cue hisses of 'nnooooo!' from the sidelines :p) and B had the demeanor of an RSPCA case as he hates the rain and did the whole thing with his ears down and his tail between his legs :o :o :o you've got the qual, that's what matters!!!

I do hear some judges say the dog shows potential for the future and the handler is the problem :p

Thanks guys I cant wait to take her photo tomorrow and email Dobermann Welfare I know they will be chuffed given her fear of other dogs.

Quirky Stanleys antics made me laugh and I can so empathise with other people not wanting to g near him at exam time. Well done Stanley ,sounds like your examiner was a lot more strict and yours was a true test.

CC thanks your tests put mine to shame and sounds like you and your dog had a rough time.

When we first started our training Darcy barked at every dog so I feel we have come a long way .The award is the icing on the cake as far as Im concerned as it was all about the socialisation for her. We might even try for the silver in the Autumn.:D

Yay, go for it! Our 'passive dog' was one he tried to eat on his first ever trip to training club so I know how you feel!!! Again, a huge well done for coming so far, it's a great feeling when they come good :D

Yay well done Darcy, nerve wracking isn't it? The local dog warden tests at our training club, he is very strict, he failed 2 people cos they got the questions wrong when we did the bronze, and they weren't given a second chance. One was a teenager who was in tears because she had let her dog down.:(

Inca passed her bronze a couple of weks ago too, 5 took the test 2 failed. Inca and Parker we had had the most trouble with over the course, Parker is dog reactive but not aggressive Inca is such high energy she struggles to heel gets bored and can have a short attention span but they are the two that passes easily

MM It was nervewracking but I do wish the examiner had been stricter, in a daft sort of way I rather we failed than this meaningless pass. I have to say some of the questions are pretty pathetic like I was asked what dont you allow your dog to eat off, answer your plate.

Zara Blue well done to you as well are you going for silver@.

Thanks Lexie after doing your course is it something you would do with Dex? Imagine when you were stopped by that bloke and you produced a KC Good Citizen Award he would have been dumbstruck.:D

Our training club does the Good citizen stuff.... which he could pass with his eyes shut, if we could do it somewhere ALONE!! :!

Lexie you make me laugh, I felt that way when I first took Darcy and she barked her head off at every dog there. The Instructor told me if I couldnt shut her up she would never pass the exam.

From what youve said about Dex he just wants to play with other dogs so when you do your course meeting stooge dogs will do him the power of good. He just sounds like a great big puppy.:)

Yep giganta pup he is!! It was playing that got him bitten- big lummox that he is. Can not wait for this course to start--- they must be pretty good given they have a 4 month waiting list!!
