May be a really stupid question, but...

Looking at my sister's horse's mouth this morning, noticed he has "patches" of dark on his gums.

It is a bluey-grey kind of colour, and spotty in places. It has definitely always been this colour under his top lip but it is also on the bars which I haven't noticed before - I am never there for the dentist and it's not usually me who handles him so it might have always been like that.

Is it normal for areas of the mouth to be a colour other than the usual pink? It is not swollen and doesn't look like bruising.

He had the vet out to do his teeth a couple of month's ago and everything was fine.

Slightly embarrassed to have never come across it before!!

Tia :)

My youngster has almost purple gums! The dentist and vet have both seen her (not specifically for that) and haven't commented and she is perfectly healthy, so I am just accepting it as normal. She is dark bay. My two chestnut boys have normal coloured gums!
