Anyone else hate going up to a dark field to see to their horses? Ours lives out 24/7 and as I work can't get up to him much before 7pm in the week, although this isn't every night as I share duties. Just feel very isolated going up there alone and no there is nobody else that can come up with me as OH at work.

TBH I'm not up there that long say 30 mins or so but can't wait until nights get lighter :D

Anyone else feel the same?

the dark night and wet muddy weather have completely got me down. have a herd of horses in fields and only just feeding and bringing them in and out. This winter has been so miserable so far - can't wait till the evening get even a BIT better!

Oh yes! Ever since the clocks changed I've felt like an overworked zombie! I do evening yards at my livery yard and its getting increasingly hard to drag myself out of my nice warm house having just eaten my tea, when all I want to do is snooze in front of the telly but instead I have to venture into the cold and dark, esp as all the horses are in for longer now so take longer to skip out and their haynets are so heavy I'm risking a hernia tying them up!

Yes I hate it. There's never anyone else at the yard, just the claustrophobic darkness and rustling a trees making me jump!

Mine lives out too so it's a lonely trek out to the fields in the dark, I'm just glad she comes when I call otherwise I'd never find her in the dark.

Roll on the 21st December.....thereafter we'll start to get a little light back each day!!

I'm in the same boat and I've hardly ridden these past few weeks as where I am in Lancashire has been under so much pressure from the weather, water wise,...it's ridiculous. These floods have been horrendous.

I hate the dark nights. My ponies are down a lane which fortunately is lit slightly and i have some dim lights on the stables, but when i go to check them at night i just drive down undo the window and shine the torch their way. They are out 24/7 so I just go to make sure fence is secure and that they are happy munching, or sometimes they are in the shelter. I am so looking forward to the spring and hopefully a summer with longer days and light nights.OH and maybe even no mud !!

I loathe these short days, but the dark doesn't bother me at all. I leave work and drive to our field, walk through the field using head torch if necessary, we do have some battery lights too. The boys come in for a feed then go back out... I'm quite happy wandering around in the dark!

i admire all of you keeping horses with no facilities. I would give up if all I had was a field.

That's basically all I have, handy thing is that it is next to the house. I simply don't do my horses in the dark, I feed all the animals at about 4.30 at the moment. Last time I was out after dark I fell over a flipping raccoon.

Not long until the solstice.
