Anyone recommend a good, solid and sturdy headtorch? I am getting increasingly annoyed at trying to untie haynets in the pitch black in the field and navigating electric fencing in the dark and slippy ground!

Don't want one that's going to burn the pony's retinas by being blindingly bright and most definitely want one that is waterproof!

I have seen you can pick them up cheap as chips but that doesn't mean it's going to last an entire Autumn and Winter of darkness:rolleyes:

I can help you, it just so happens I am about to put headtorches online this week for the winter (I work for a outdoor company and look after the websales dept) Petzl are good ones and start off at £19.99. I used one all last winter and i am sure it will last this winter also. Give me a PM as i have just released a promo code that gives you 15% off everything! I would put the website on here but i am sure i would get told off :
If anyone is also intrested in winter coats ect pm for the link and code.

I've always found the cheapies you can get for a fiver on ebay are as good as anything. We have off road riding shared with dog walkers, cyclists and joggers so most of us hack out in the dark through winter with head torches on our riding hats. I think the more led's the better and I've still got ones I've had for years.

Petzl are a very good make but to be honest I bought one and then bought one on offer from blacks. It was no special make but is much smaller, lighter, much brighter & only takes 1 AA battery. It was 1/4 of the price. & its lasted 2yrs & still going. Now we have LEDs there really is no need to spend a lot. £10-20max.

Top tip when using your new head torch........ Keep your mouth closed or, like me, you'll end up with a moth stuck in your teeth!

Try the headlock from www.alpkit.com they come with two triple a batteries for about £15. You get a serious white light (no horses around) a lesser output white light along with red and green options. The red one doesn't spook Bertha and allows you to see what you're doing. There is s red led on the battery pack which helps the tractor driver avoid you in the yard. Battery life was good, stupid me left mine in a wagon so I'll have to fork out for another.
