Had a lucky escape this morning. I went out for a hack and decided to get off and lead going down a very steep track when my pony suddenly got very aggresive and started pushing into me, kicking out and bucking. Just as I was wondering what I had done to deserve it, he got loose and cantered down the track a little way. He then stopped, gave me a little whicker and waited until I'd caught him (bless). This happened again and then I saw the warble fly chasing him but luckily it soon disappeared. I'm glad I wasn't riding at the time, Lol and its reasurring to know my pony won't run all the way home if I ever fall off.

I don't think it will be a warble fly as they are now considered wiped out in the UK - could it have been an armoured Bot? They are slightly striped and com in tail first to your horse. I had the same experience - managed to catch the 'warble fly' sent it to the insect specialists at the University and was told it was an armoured bot and that warbles are now wiped out

That's interesting, perhaps it was an armoured bot then. It was very big, brown and furry. Why are horses so scared of them? Do they sting?
