I have been trying to sell my reg dartmoor colt for a while now with no luck despite alot of interest. I had a phone call yesterday from an international number and a man from germany. Apparently he is interested in buying my colt to be used as a stallion. I found it all a bit strange that someone in Germany would want a dartmoor pony. So was wondering if anyone knew anything about Dartmoor ponies in Germany? Are the sought after over there? I am waiting for him to arrange transport for him (even though i do expect to be waiting an awfully long time).

Dartmoors are very popular in Germany and have been for many years. We sold a mare over there 20 years ago. There are several long standing studs over there. Patricia Decker owns the Oaktree stud and is also A Dartmoor Pony Society Panal Judge in this country. You can get her contact details via the Dartmoor Pony Society. Dartmoors are also popular in France. Denmark, Norway Sweden Australia and USA

Thank-you for clearing that up for me. I did wonder if they were seen as some rare kind of exotic breed, i guess as we see some of the foreign bred horses over here. He kept asking about his testicles so i can only assume he wanted him for breeding. I'm not sure if he is the best example of a dartmoor going but i guess he is cheap (I dont know alot about Dartmoors). Lets hope he rings back............

Um, the sire is Sherberton Lightning flash and the dam is dunmere black bryony. If those names mean anything to you? I think he looks cute. I bought him cos I liked the way he looked and cos he's cheeky but i know nothing about Dartmoors like I said. He does have a star which I know isnt desireable.
