I'm thinking of getting a horse that used to belong to a huntsman who hunted in Dartmoor, can anyone tell me what sort of country it is, jumping wise. Many thanks.

I used to go out regularly down there & except the odd bank/ stone wall or two there wasn't a great deal. Dartmoor is a huge area, so I'm only talking about the small area I stuck to.

Well from what I have done hunting on Dartmoor - its not jumping country. But your horse will be incredibly sure footed, very very agile. As tough as old boots and able to spot a bog at a hundred yards. he will be 100% with helicopters and low flying jets. Fine with water and small ditches. The area of Dartmoor I hunt on has few hedges and few walls as it is wide open moreland interspersed with rivers. THere are actually 4 hunts I believe who all use use Dartmoor. Spooners, Lamerton, Eggesford and Mid Devon. I am sure there is probably another in the south but not sure which one. All have very different terrain.
