Hi Everyone!

Had a very mixed week this week, so thought whilst I have beer and Krispy Kreme donuts, I'd share them with you!!! :)

Saturday (last week) was a really good day. We took Daughter and Dolly to an arena near us for a private lesson with a great instructor. It all went really well and we came home feeling really pleased that we'd travelled well again (and were finally getting to grips with going places without stressing) and also that Dolly had settled down really nicely and worked really well. It was also good as Dolly was nice and chilled, as she is super strong for daughter at shows at the moment so it was nice to get out and her be "normal"

We tucked Dolly in, and left her chomping on hay. Within half an hour of leaving, I was called by the stables as she appeared to have colic :( I rushed back and got the vet out. She went from very poorly to pretty much fine within an hour. PONIES!!!! I'm really happy she's ok, but really questioning everything we did (or didn't do) as to what could have caused this episode.

Also think she was probably really calm at the arena cause she was feeling like crap :o

I'm hoping it was a one off. She'd passed droppings regularly all day, so perhaps it was just wind - or a really expensive fart, as I put it to the vet :o

Anyway, the good news.

Dolly and Daughter regularly enter internet dressage and showing classes. Their performances are videoed, and then sent off to be marked. I'm really impressed by the company that does this - the feedback and recommendations are always bang on.

Anyway, this month daughter and Dolly entered a starter dressage test, and a novice showing class. AND WON BOTH OF THEM!!!! :D:D:D

They've won two trophies!!! My girls :D:D:D

I'm sooooooo proud!!!! :D

Just wanted to share anyway!!

And here's a couple of pics....

Love this one! (but it's a few months old - we're permanently in the snaffle now)

Glad she is ok, they are a constant source of worry.
what a result! good for them. no wonder you are proud. :) x

I'm well chuffed for them!!! The dressage was a small class, and she got a great score (72.5%) so we were hopeful she'd win. BUT the showing was a large class and didn't really expect anything, so was so pleased to see she'd won. Can't believe it actually.

x2 trophies, x2 rossettes and x2 lots of prize money heading daughter's way.

So pleased for her.

We LOVE Dolly! x x x

Thank goodness I am not the only one to post proud mummy posts :D

You have good reason to be proud, they look great together, and may dolly just had a tummy ache due to the new grass, but I am as paranoid ad you, Levi was kicking his stomach last night, I was headless chicken!!! I calmed down , and noticed a fly on his tummy :o

Lovely partnership

Always great to hear! Massive well done to the pair of them - especially love the jumping pic! :D

I love Dolly :D She's lovely, and mini-redmone is looking very chilled up there!

Summer here you come!

Well done to Dolly, daughter and support team!

Don't worry about the colic, these things sometimes just happen, it doesn't mean you did anything wrong. From the sounds of it it was a very mild episode or it may even have been misidentified by the YM (sweaty pony rolling a lot?), although she was right to call you if she had concerns and you were right to get the vet out.

I wouldn't worry too much about what caused the 'colic' episode. Could it be possible that she is coming into season?
The only reason I ask is that our mare has had spasmodic colic regularly (3-4) times in the past few years around this time od year. The vet has linked this to her coming into season heavily for the first one or two of the year. Hers comes on quickly and goes away within hours of having bute and being walked (to stop rolling)
(Just to add each time she has had spasmodic colic we have had the vet out and these actions are always under supervision and advice)
Just a thought :)

She is lovely btw and well done with the results and trophies!

Dolly looks lovely.
Bobby had a very expensive fart once. 6am phone call to say he had just collapsed in the field. Dashed to the yard. Vet came straight out. He looked in agony & was very nearly pts (he was 27). Decided to give him a couple of hours as Vet just had a nagging feeling that he wasn't as bad as it looked (later confessed that he felt sick worrying that was the wrong decision). An hour later one almighty fart & he was up frisking me for polos!

I think it was very mild, or perhaps wind or a "being in season" pain??? YM was bang on getting in touch with us. She was rolling, but also wouldn't eat or drink (she ALWAYS eats!!!) and looked so uncomfortable when we got there.

I was so relieved so recovered so quickly! And that it wasn't too expensive!!

:o

This is really interesting. A friend of ours (a very experienced horse person in my opinion) said exactly the same of what you've said. I didn't think much more of it, but it does make a lot of sense. She's not very obvious to tell if she's in season (she's grumpy in the stable normally anyway ) however a week or so ago she was very squeally around a rather sexy gelding :p and she did have a week or two of being quite stiff on one side (didn't want to bend on one rein) which someone said could be a seasonal thing.

Perhaps you're right! I've told daughter about this, because she's scared that it's something we did, or didn't do. So perhaps it if was something to do with her seasons, it might make us feel less worried about it happening again.

Thanks for your help, really useful this. x

Love this story!!!!

Fancy life or death being based on a fart!!!! Mind you I've felt like that before now :o:D:p

Nice one Bobby!!!! 27 is a fine age too! :D

Hi,
I haven't posted to you before but I've spend most of today reading all your posts with my OH getting more and more annoyed with the amount of time I'm spending on the computer. I really wish I could have read your earlier posts when you first bought Dolly as we are looking for a pony for my two daughters at the moment and I would have loved to read about your experiences expecially as you sound nervous just like me!!!:o We are going to see a pony tomorrow and I think I'll have a sleepless night tonight worrying about it. Oh well, it's lovely to read that your daughter and Dolly are getting on so well now and I'm glad Dolly is ok now. Looking forward to the next update.
