My daughter is having her first riding lesson tomorrow. Lead rein lesson.

My little girl is nearly 5 and had her first ever ride on a friends lead rein pony - he is a complete sweetie, nearly 20 himself and has taught umpteen children to ride as he is such a good, safe pony.

Anyway my little girl loved her first 'taster' wander around a school, so tomorrow my friend is taking her pony to the local indoor school and my daughter will have her first lead rein lesson.

I'm so excited (and a bit nervous!)

I remember my first lesson, I was 7.....the instructor said we was gonna trot, I waved me reins around and yelled 'Ye-haaa!'.......and the pony (quite rightly) dumped me! :D

Not trying to put you off, i'm sure your daughter will have much more about her than I did....I had John Wayne on the brain!

That is brilliant! I learnt to ride at 5 and haven't stopped!! I really hope she enjoys herself. Riding is a great hobby with lots of fresh air!!

Just a thought for the future:
If she chooses to take it up on a regular basis, my advice is to make sure you buy her a pair of riding boots or jodhpur boots early on. Hats you can generally borrow from the local riding school but a lot of people put kids in wellie boots. I know it's not nice to think about at this stage & please don't take offence at my advice but every young rider takes a tumble at some point and you want to be sure there feet will slip free from the stirrups. Wellies have too much grip. Their own hat should then be second on the list and would make a great Xmas prezzie!

I remember getting my first hat for Christmas! I was probably 5 or 6. (I'm mid 40's now!) I wouldn't take it off all day - we still have the photos! It was a brown velevt patey. In fact I think it might still be in the attic somewhere!
