Thanks again for all your good wishes - they worked!

She had the appendix out on Wednesday evening, and is coming home today. She is so ready to come home - really fed up in hospital and fed up of the food!

She is still in pain, but now it's pain from the op not pain from an inflamed appendix. The doctor confirmed that the appendix was inflamed when he removed it.

Anyone on here had this done? Just wondering how long til she can get back to school?

She is disappointed not to be able to compete in a hunter trial this Sunday but the organisers have been very good and are refunding our entry fee.

Aw pleased she is feeling better! As to going back to school.....10 days or so until the stitches come out, so I wouldn't risk it until then. If someone bumped into her that would flipping hurt!

I bet she's not wondering about when she can get back to school - I bet she's thinking "I wonder if I can ride just quietly as soon as I get home"!

Best wishes for her recovery

I had it about 7yrs ago now (in yr 10). I was in more pain after the op than before and also had a funny turn from the drugs!!
I didnt go back to school for 3weeks then went back for mornings only for another 2 weeks. I had to wear tracksuit bottoms/trousers as my skirt sat right on my scar. However my school was based on about 7acres so had alot of walking to do and lots of steps up and down to lessons so i was not exactly in the average for time periods i also was very tired for this period as i had had a reaction to anasthetic and the painkillers!! I would say probably 3wks if school is normal size! But see how she goes on.
Glad she is coming home. If it helps i actually got on my safe sane oldie after about 3 weeks!! It did hurt though!!

it depends if she had an open operation or one with cameras? but about 2-3 weeks is what is advised for return to work, so probably similar to school. no reason her friends cant come round though if she's bored (they could even bring her homework?!).

please dont let her ride until doctor oks it though. if she opens up the wound can have many more complications & be off riding for much longer than if she is just patient. i know its hard though!

get her a good book/computer game/ dvd?

Glad she is coming home. I had my appendix out years ago but remember it is much longer than you think before you can ride. I tried much too early and split the stitches :o and now have a rather ragged scar at the end :) I also tried to drive (up to horse :)) and that was painful too!

You do feel a bit off for a while (lots of sleeping) as apart from the op itself a 'mucky' appendix challenges your system.

I would say wait until stitches come out before going back to school.

Good to hear she's doing well :) :)

Ditto the others, don't do anything too soon, it's just not worth it. I rode when I didn't feel well..., jumped, came off due to feeling so yuck, landed on my feet (from the apex of an over-jumped 2'6") and broke my back, all because I rode when I felt blah.

The core muscles will need to get back into shape.

Fingers crossed on keeping her amused 'till then ;) :)

Thanks everyone.

No, I won;t be letting her ride any time soon - her youngster is going away for the winter in a few weeks time, and I can keep her hunting horse going by hacking him out in the week. He is dead steady anyway, but she won't be getting on him for a few weeks yet.

I'm glad this has happened now - right at the start of her A Levels and not at the exam time!

No doubt she will be glued to Facebook and twitter once she's home but we can go to Blockbuster and get some DVDs out too.

I will ring school on Monday and see if they have any stuff for me to collect that she can be working on. I know she is worried about getting behind with her A Level studies.

Thanks again everyone - just waiting now for her to ring us to say to go and get her, I think she is waiting for pharmacy to dispense her painkillers before she can leave.

Hi Boxers
I was the bad mum that sent my daughter to school when she had appendicitis!
She was out of hospital in three days and off school for two weeks. No PE for a month then started back slowly. She had quite a big scar because she had very strong stomach muscles apparantly.
Started riding again in six weeks.

So pleased that it all went well and she can start her recovery, at least thats the end of the ongoing problems, best wishes for a speedy recovery :-)
