David Gatherer Lesson at SNEC

Hello,

I was there yesterday afternoon for a lesson, he is sooo goood!!

He had has doing canter poles, on the floor and raised. Also had line of trot poles to an upright which he put up to make horses use themselves. Had three fences in a row with two strides between jumping towards gallery, my young horse is still convinced that a gremlin horse eating monster is going to appear so was ever so slightly drifting to the right so put poles diagonally across fence to make him stay straight and use himself, hope that makes sense. To finish he had a jump five strides on an angle to another five strides to another angle, which we found hard as first time i got a silly line to first which made me wrong all the way through and second time horse drifting away from those gremlins again!! ;) My young guy finds it hard to shorten and lengthen at the moment.

Really good afternoon, im going to attempt BS show on sat i think just to see if i can convince Magic there are no gremlins!! anyone else going?

Yes i think i might go for first class and see what its like and inspect for gremlins. Do you think it will be really busy? I havent been to BS or (BSJA when i was young ;) )for years and did half wonder whether i should go to unaff on sunday but would be nice to have a day of rest!! ;)

When I used to do BSJA there were no intro/amateur/pro shows, it was all combined. there was usually 90 in the classes then. Recently I went to Rowallan intro shows and there were probably only about 30 in each class so much more reasonable.

Not sure if SNEC is busier but I'm guessing it will be about the same.

Good luck on Sat. I am just about to register with BS for 6months to see if I make use of it. (and if I am lucky to get a rosette at least I'll get some money too :)

Good summary applestroodle! :) Glad you and Magic had a good lesson. Good luck on Sat. Always hard to tell how busy any SJ show will be, hopefully a happy medium for you.

Hopalong and I were supposed to be there... however in the end it was me there on foot and kirkton took our place. :( Hopalong came in from the field lame on Fri morning (fine Thurs night after a quiet hack, lame in trot on Fri morning after being out overnight on her own- friend across fence line- so no idea what she did. ) and a weekend of rest wasn't enough. Gutted as I love David lessons, what rubbish timing on Hopalong's part!  ;) Another week of rest, hopefully some massage/physio and then we'll see what's what.

I'll keep my fingers crossed FJ, is it an abscess? or muscle? maybe she was partying too hard in the night

Ha ha, maybe she was! Definitely reacting to being prodded inside her stifle/hock area. It was a sudden onset of lameness and no guilty 2nd party there to provide a kick wound, so must be a muscle pull or summat?! Flexion test for upper limb definitely increased the lameness, so it's that area hurting. (no reaction to hoof testers- vet was quick to tell students how many times an abscess could make a fool of them! ;) ) Thanks, I hope she's on the mend soon too.

Kirkton and Babybear were fab though and was good to watch and listen and get some jumping exercise ideas all the same. :) Hopefully we'll be right for the end of Oct date...

Oh what a super looking horse Babybear is :D How is he bred?

Aww, thank you! He was born and bred in Portugal at the De Foja stud and brought over as an unbroken 3 year old. He's now just 6 and still growing!! Almost 17hh. Still very green but I really hope one day he will be good! (When he stops growing that is!)

He's 7/8 by Beau Harry out of a Portugese mare. He was found for me by David as he was brought over from Portugal by Olivia Haddow.

A couple of stills of him below - sorry can't work out how to re-size them!

You just tell Heidi to get a shift on and be back better for the October lesson!! We've been practicing our bounce grids tonight in preparation!:D:D

Well he certainly looks a star in the making :D Really lovely stamp.
I did wonder if the De Foja bit was Portuguese. Olivia has one with very similar name doesn't she?

Yes, Olivia brought 3 over at the same time. Mine - Zebrino De Foja (Bruno) , his half brother Zebedee De Foja (Zebedee) and a little pony type one called Jose. She already had Univito De Foja (Mick) but he's now being ridden by Lynn Chalmers.

Having said all that Bruno and Zebedee are chalk and cheese. Zeb is sharp and Bruno laid back. Bruno very green and taking a lot of time to mature and Zeb is doing his first CIC* this weekend. The breeder emails us both a lot and likes to keep tabs on all the De Foja horses. If you look them up they tend to do quite well (mine is a bit behind the others but he's also a lot bigger!)

Bigger horses definitely take longer. He will probably be 8 before he is fully mature - my instructor keeps reminding me that about my horse ;) He is only 16.2/3 but big strong Irish type and has changed a lot in the 16 months I have had him!! He is 6 too

I was meant to go along on Monday night but a work/committee meeting got in the way - but looks like you shared the lesson with my OH. Tried to get details from him regarding the exercises but found this thread more informative!

Maybe see you in October - your horse is lovely!

:)

Thanks jnhuk, but I got a call today from snec to say that oct lessons are cancelled!!

WHAT??????......WHY?????...............Typical here's me all organised with lessons booked through to the end of the year and was told no way they would cancel and this is what happens!! Argh!!!! So will they get round to phoning everyone or just the select few and keep my money?

Off to stomp around office in a grump now :(:(:(:(:(:(:(:(

I have had no call from them and I'm meant to be booked into the Oct lesson! Did they give a reason? I will maybe call later (if not heard before) and give them a grilling.

Seems like we really will need to organise our own sessions over the winter! :(

I'm booked in for Oct and Nov and no-one has bothered to contact me to tell me its cancelled.....!??

Phoning Snec is pointless though as they never answer the phones....

I just got the call. BOOOOO!! October cancelled but no reason given :(:(:(:(:(

and I've just lost all my mornings work on the laptop.:mad::mad:

Not a good Friday along with this weather!!!! PAH!

Tried getting a reason out of the guy on the phone but he wasn't giving any answers. Said the Nov date was still on, but I can't make that. :(

Anyway, may have played in my favour getting the refund as who knows if my pony will be sound then! Hoping she is back to normal tonight when I trot her up though, that will be one week rest from initial lameness.

FJ - where do you get all your icons? I can't find any of the emotion symbols or codes anywhere but I am impressed with the ones you post!

Not sure if anyone interested but David is doing some XC clinics in October
24th Oct at Titwood, see Ayr RC website
18th Oct at Gleneagles

Also 26th Oct at Ingliston

Lots of fun icons to be found here. :) You just paste the code in to your reply.

The Gleneagles lesson will be XC. Ingliston is just too far for me to trek to without needing time off. :( I need to work on my SJ over the winter and SNEC being about 10min away is perfect. Booooo to them cancelling Oct lessons!
