I haven't waded through all the various threads and posts as, quite honestly, the whole spectacle was so disturbing I don't need reminding of any of it, and that includes the unpleasant and chaotic scenes at the finish.

And I'm an immense racing fan, and follow the sport, particularly NH, very closely.

However, I just wanted to say, and it may have been said elsewhere, TOP MARKS to Davy Russell, who was photographed helping with cooling down the winner at the finish, and chucking buckets of water over him. Others may have been doing the same, so huge well dones to them too. He's always struck me as a bit taciturn, and he's gone up massively in my estimation as a result.

I don't follow racing ( except the GN like alot of people ) but i wholeheartedly agree with you , everyone concerned immediately saw the state that the horse was in and reacted swiftly and without thoughts of the winning glory , well done to all .

I didn't see any follow up of the state of ballabriggs so i'm hoping he's ok?

Taken from BBC online... Winner Ballabriggs was reported to be "totally dehydrated" after the race. His lad Ed Bourne said on Sunday: "I had to put a lot of water on him. But he came out of it grand, he's had a pick of grass and he's OK.

Thank god , don't want anymore fatalities!! But just imagine what would have happened if the winner went on to die of exhaustion - doesn't bear thinking about - well done ballabriggs :)

For the record those who have said Maguire should have stayed with his horse to see he was ok - he couldnt. He had to weigh in asap - he left the horse in the capable hands of the stable staff and trainer. But yes, fair play to Davy - hes alright. ;)

Yes I saw that pic of Davy Russell too. There really is strong camaraderie in racing and the general public don't realise that. I thought fair play to him as well for helping cool off the winner. The jockey had to go and weigh in he passed the horse over to the more than capable stable staff to cool him off. But before dismounting Jason Maguire was shouting to the stable lads to come and get the horse as he was wobbling a bit. What more could he have done?
