Just wondering how many days off people give their horses and ponies who are not competing?

My horse is (I think) in the top end of light work and ridden 5/6 days a week. Schooled during the week dressage/jumping, long weekend hacks, plenty of cantering and galloping and road walking, occasional xc)

Just wondering what others do?

Thanks

Bug has 2 days off a week, she will be competing later in the year but will still have those days off as she is only 4.

At the moment because we've got camp coming up and generally a very busy summer planned he's doing 6 days a week, combination of hacking, schooling and jumping. Currently I'm paying the YO'er daughter to ride him twice a week for me because I'm struggling to do it myself with working full time and home life but after camp I can't justify the expense in order to keep him fit so I'll either have to do it myself or maybe reduce him to 5 days work a week, he'll still remain fit because his fitness level now is very high.

Mine live out 24/7 365 days a year so keep themselves fiarly fit; I can pick him up ( he's 14.1hh welsh x arab and 20 years old ) after a week off and he can easily do a 10 mile hack.

I don't do any competing, just hacking/pleasure rides and pony camp ( just a load of girlies getting together to drink eat and mess about lol ) I ride when I feel like it, becomes a chore if I feel I have to ride.

Some weeks I will ride 5 times for a couple of hours, but for instance this week only once. He's still the same.......... horizontal!

It's a bit random for mine! Now it's lighter, I can ride after school but how much I actually ride depends on how busy I am at school! On a normal week he probably gets ridden 4/5 times but for no more than an hour and we have very limited hacking and no arena so he never really works that hard at home. The days off are not really because he needs them, more I can't do it but in the summer holidays we go out up to 4 times a week in which case I don't ride him inbetween because I feel he actually needs the rest, although I could ride if I wanted.
Hope that makes sense!

Mine are currently ridden every day as spring grass is coming and I have to watch their weight. I prefer exercise to muzzling and I think they do too.I have a couple of energetic students to help me out.

I ride my mare 5/6 days a week! I do mostly hacking With some schooling/ jumping/ lunging. I do sometimes have to force myself to give her a day off! I am terrible as I like to make sure I'm getting my money's worth out of her, I'm also obsessed about keeping her fit and keeping her weight off! I also love riding my horse! I was so depressed about not being able to ride when we had the snow in Nov/ Dec!
My daughter competes her mare and does PC and she gets ridden 5/6 days a week too and more or less does the same amount of exercise as mine but does jump more!
