Hi sorry I dont post much these days but please all cross your fingers for us.

Our pony is being operated on tomorrow by matt smith (from newmarket)

pony has been lame and on box rest since September
So fingers crossed he finds something to repair tomorrow and it all goes well

Good luck. Matt Smith operated on my mare's DDFT in 2014. We then had a few months walking rehab and she's been right as rain. We're now out competing and jumping. You'll be in good hands!

Oddly enough she was basically sound as soon as she came back. She had the tendon debrided as it had started to heal in a criss-cross sort of pattern so I guess the fibres were catching. Tidying them up seemed to help. She had two weeks box rest when she came back so it was hard to tell how sound she was straight away. We were lucky as it wasn't a severe tear. We then started the walking at a few minutes twice a day (including her escaping from my other half and galloping back home) and she looked sound straight away. She's now barefoot as well though she wasn't during her walking rehab, and I'm convinced it's helped.

She went from this:

To this in the space of about a year

Hope all goes well for you, keep us updated!

Why did they go in to operate on the DDFT when they didn't have a scan to prove it? How did they come to the conclusion thats that what it was? Did they nerve block the hoof at all?

I feel your pain on the insurance money - it runs out quick! I'm spending mine now on barefoot rehab as my boy does have DDFT damage in both front feet.

she had a really fantastic response to a nerve block in to the nevicular capsule and nothing showed up on xray, were pretty certain it was the ddft so didnt want to ''waste'' and time taking her for an mri scan nearest one being 2 hours away,

now have to wait 2 months and take her for mri scan

Just to let you know that my horse went lame and had nerve blocks and x rays. Vet convinced that it was coffin joint arthritis and started Irap therapy.
He continued to be lame and new nerve block carried out.
He had surgery to his ddft without a scan as couldn't afford both.
A tear was found and it was matt that operated on mine.
My horse came back sound straight away and although he stopped sj he did hack and hunt again.

Hope you find something soon.
You weren't wrong to not scan, it worked in our case.
