does any body do their stables? I have just spent a couple of hours with a great big chimney sweep brush type thing, de cobwebbing my stables. I am absolutely filthy now lol.

My stables haven't had a good clean for quite a while and allthough it is extremely windy out there, it actually was a good time to do it as the dust and muck didn't hang around for too long. What with all this autumnal like weather around I thought I'd better start preparing my stables for ............shhh winter! shhh

One more go at them with a slightly damp sweepy brush should finish them off nicely and hey presto.......no more cob webbs :-)

I'm just about to tackle mine on Monday morning - 1st day of my week's holiday! - & I have to say I'm not looking forward to it! However I'm sure there will be job satisfaction at the end of it!

I don't deweb the whole stable as the spiders keep the number of flies down. I do clean the ones lower down on the walls though and the ones that would be in mine or my horses way.

I have extremely industrious spiders:mad: It takes them about a week to replace their webs in my barn.

Spike, they don't keep the flies down in mine, I just get webs full of flies hanging about too, gross. Nothing much controls the flies here, and my muck heap is a quarter of a mile away so I can't blame that :( We just get thousands of flies, we live with it.

I am very envious of people who don't have to set about a barn with a brush every week.;)

I don't particularly want to turf the spiders out of their homes - it is them who keep our fly numbers down!! I'm going to get rid of the old matted tangly things and leave the evidently newer ones - I guess we'll have to paint round them :)

Hey, how do you fancy coming to do my stables????! They have high beams which contain the scariest Scooby Doo sized cobwebs you've ever seen! I dread to think what lives within. I love my stables and as long as you don't look up, I think I keep them looking spiffy!

This is my job for tomorrow morning, I've just been to Tesco and bought a really long handled broom. It's my autumn stable clean, mats came out his evening (he's out at night at the moment) to let the floor dry out and tomorrow is scrubbing and cobweb removal -and there are alot of cobwebs!

Good tip on the goggles, that will save several eye washes!

Yes I do like to de-cobweb Serens stable. She has a new built stable for this winter, we have not even used it yet as it was only built in the spring and she does not tend to get stabled anyway but its good to have :D

I am working this morning and cleaning stables this afternoon, have removed all the old bedding and cob webs. Time to take the rubber mats out, wash the floors and make it all tidy for winter!

I did a whille ago won't be doing it again like that!! I end up with a chest infection yuk on antibods for a week too. I will wear a face mask next time!! I felt so rough!!! It did look nice afterwards walls all washd down!!

You're not supposed to breathe the cobwebs in, Helen!!! Those cobwebs were pretty awful, though, not surprised they gave you a lurgy. How are you and Beau getting on?

I'll be cleaning out my stables once my 2 horses are out of box rest.. Looking up at the mass of cobwebs in my stables I dread to think of what lurks inside them, I have to admit, i'm not a big fan of spiders :( I probably end up wearing a full body suit, balaclava, goggles and a gas mask :D however it is worth it once your stables look nice and squeaky clean!!

I de-cobweb once a week in all 11 boxes. I have heard so much nonsense regarding them and tbh have decided that boxes hanging with dirty grey sheets of the things belong to mis informed and possibly 'lazy' people. When CWs are 'new' they are difficult to see-that is the beauty in them. You cant see it. nor can the fly=supper for the spider. When it becomes noticeable, it is also noticeable for the fly=no supper for the spider. So, why do you leave them hanging there catching dust and nothing else? I was also taught that they are a fire hazard. If I can see them....down they come, it only takes a moment.

Was also told they are a fire hazard. use to de-web and disinfect stables once a month fire hoses work a treat :D
my herd live out 24/7 now so de-webbing has been swapped for fly spray :D
