As title, just seen a post on the Surrey Horse & Pony fb page about a poor little coloured pony (looks to be pretty young) which has been dumped at the side of the road over the weekend. Apparently it's been there since yesterday morning and the council/police are not planning on taking it away until at least tomorrow. Poor little thing, RIP.

This is the 3rd dumped dead pony I've heard of in the last week (H&H posted on fb about another two a couple of days ago).

I just find this awful situation we have with equine welfare ATM absolutely, exhaustingly heartbreaking. The recent discussions on fly grazing in parliament seem to have amounted to diddly squat. What can be done about all of this?

Maybe MPs should be bombarded with pictures of neglected and dead horses and ponies until they actually get off their backsides and do something?!

In an ideal world, people would stop indiscriminate breeding, owning a horse should require a license and only quality, well bred horses would be bred from.

This, however, wouldn't work. The time, money and effort invested wouldn't be worth the outcome, which wouldn't be much different to what it is now.

Education regarding equestrianism and equine care is at the core of it though, and until this is improved, both nationally and internationally, these sort of situations will continue. To some, it is an easier route, quite possibly due to the monetary outlay.

It is sad, but it is a difficult thing to police, as difficult to predict.

You're totally right JustKickOn - I just hate to keep hearing of these poor animals that never know a kind word in their lives and then end up dead at the side of the road. I don't know if there's anything can be done as how do you educate people to have a heart when it comes to animals? I cannot imagine treating any living thing like this. It makes me wonder if there is any hope for the people who think this is acceptable :(

I used to be an RSPCA Inspector in this area, ten years ago, and I am afraid that this is not uncommon. We knew the fraternity that were responsible, but it was PROVING it - and also proving how the horse died .

Totally agree. Poor little soul. RIP little one. I am so sorry :(

Well it seems that some nasty kids have been tampering with this pony's body and have put pictures of themselves on fb pulling stupid faces whilst holding up the pony's head. Despicable behaviour, I can't believe it would cross someone's mind to do that! Hopefully it will be removed soon. There really are some sick people in this world :(

Absolutely horrible but sadly it seems to be becoming more of the norm now.

I wouldn't like to have to explain that to any children if I happened to drive past the poor thing, very upsetting for kids I should imagine. I don't even like seeing dead wildlife on/by the road.

I honestly can't understand why these horses are bred and bred and the people must know they haven't got the space, not that they probably care! Poor little thing, at least he is out of harms way now. RIP xx

Disgusting behaviour, nice to know they are our future generations!

wonder if they related to the monsters that did this to this poor innocent animal

nothing much surprises me these days It makes me kind of glad that I wont grace this hellish world we live in a whole lot longer. Probably a jaded view and approaching my 60th birthday next weekend it is making me feel old I do hope the situation will cchange and animals will become valued but while it is a huge hope it is a pretty vain one. RIP little pony I am sad you never found your happy soulmate and to those that think it ok to keep entires please think of this little one and get you males castrated and keep your mare chaste
