dealers- any decent ones out there?!

Having absolutely no luck riding a suitable horse to move me off my pony. I'd probably prefer to buy a horse privately but we've been on so many wasted journeys that we were tempted to try dealers as at least you could try a few horses. would also give me more of an idea what i m looking for.

We went to one dealer in yorkshire the other day and ended up not riding anything, horses were miserable and the one we saw ridden was slightly lame. i m a bit put off dealers as i haven't come across any genuine ones yet!

could any reccomend a good dealer in the midlands area?
 
there are plenty of good dealers out there, bit unfortunate the one you visited was not so. Ask around in your area for recommendations and see which names are repeatedly mentioned as being good. Personally I now prefer to buy from dealers as you have far more consumer rights etc.
 
What are you looking for?? What sort of budget have you got? Shame you can't stretch little Cinders legs, she's a lovely pony!!

Stubley hollow is very good and honest they are in Dronfield Derbyshire, also Oakwood stud appears to have good reviews and they are in Notts , it all depend what sort of horse you are looking for as these two "dealers" deal in different types of horses.

Also there is Middleton Equestrian Centre in Tamworth, who i THINK have had good reviews certainly I haven't seen any bad ones.

Good luck in finding your horse, I know how difficult it is , I'm viewing a horse this evening, fingers crossed its the one, many disappointments along the way, mis- described, failed vettings, its about time my luck changed !!!

Stubley Hollow always seem to get good reviews and their horses always look straightforward genuine types. They also seem very honest in their descriptions as well.

I would highly recommend Queenholme (the kyles) in leics .... brought dennis from there last year, great people, and some very nice horses! All horses are irish bred and brought over from ireland.

Have also heard nice things about stubley hollow too (not been there myself though so couldnt really comment that much)
 
totally agree with eventergirl about the Kyle's. I used to work for them and know that the horses are all what you are told and are produced with care, etc. Also, if anything goes wrong they are more than happy to take the horse back or give some schooling help, etc.
They are not 'officially' dealers but do always have several really quality irish horses for sale.
 
thanks for the replies! nice to hear some good things about dealers as i seem to think certain ones look good and then people tell me to steer well clear! lol

benjis_girl- looking for a good allrounder to carry on doing dressage, sj and xc on, between 15.2 and 16.2. i dont have huge amounts of experience so need a horse that fills me with confidence and i can feel safe on. got a budget of around £4500 although could strech for the right horse. I do like the look of the one called Spiro, he's been up for a while and i m sure i saw him on horsequest for £5500 now so might be worth a look.

stubley hollow does look good and i m often looking on there. I do think they seem a bit pricey but do look like decent horses. They dont seem to have anything suitable at the moment but will keep having a look.

oakwood do look good as well, have looked at their website before but they never have any prices on so i get the feeling their way out of my range! lol also their horses seem too good for me!

will look into queenholme and middleton equestrian centre.
 
I'd much rather buy from a dealer than a private sale unless I knew the horse well locally - I think my last 5 or 6 horses were from dealers and all exactly as described, the only time Ive had trouble was from private sellers.
 
You're doing the right thing by asking on here, there are alot of fab dealers out there but also alot of crooks so reccomendations from others is really the only way to go.

Cinders, what kind of horse are you looking for and what do you want to do with it? Knowing that might help with pointing you in the right direction, there are different dealers for different things, some will try to specialise in family type cobs, others will supply fit horses ready for competition.

I think part of the price at Stubley Hollow is for the work they put in. They spend a lot of time (sometimes months) schooling the horses and assessing them. They are hacked out daily through housing estates and busy roads etc. My mare came from there over 3 years ago and I know several others from there too. If your clear with Patsy about your ability and what you need in a horse, she will genuinely try her best to get it right for you. Also, unlike many dealers, her warrenty is worth a lot because there are always other very good horses to exchange one for if it doesn't work out.

She often has more than what is on the webiste, so it might be worth giving her a ring.
 
can anyone help me also??? I am contacting several yards in Oxfordshire in the hope that i may be able to trace a horse that i sold to a dealer back in 2003. I'm basically trying to find the number of a sport horse dealer that i sold my horse to back in worrying times in december 2003.I have lost contact details for this person but all i can remember was that she lived near Wantage, and was one of the better dealers (dealing in hunters and sport horses) as my vet of Hall and Lawrence recomended her to me.I think it was a family buisness where her daughters also ride and work on the yard.If you can think of anyone who fits this description or know of any nice lady dealers in Oxfordshire/Berkshire,i would be eternally grateful for any contact details. All i am trying to do is see if my little mare is ok, and who she might be with now,as i had to pass her on to this lady in rather difficult times!!! thanks!!!
