we went on the search for a pony the other day now not wanting to name people all i will say is we arragnged to go the previous evening and had a 2 hour drive there.

On arriving one of the ponies we were to try was been exercised? And all the rest were sweated up [told was due to them having rugs on,no rugs on back and none in sight or in storage areas to speak of]

First ponie advertised as quiet and a ride in head collar type ran to the back of the stable when we went in and was very nervous.
Moved onto next 2 we were looking at both very quiet and happy to be fussed over not pretty to look at but nice [also had not been groomed were all sweated up and scraggy]

So we get on to try them i got on the nervy one as i was also looking for another person from the yard riding along nicely next thing F comes up behind me on one she was trying, the one i was on swung its bum round and went for the pony so i pushed it on and that was that.
F trying out this other pony turns away from ride to see what its like the one im one tried to nap so put my leg on it then bucks 3 times in a row with me.

Now reminding you all theese are all ponies advertised as BOMBPROOF childrens ponies can do anything with them ect ect.

So we get back and i get on the one F had been riding i get one and it tries to shoot off [fair enough after years of riding ponies in my teens i do have a slight electric bottom] ride it down a bit and its fine then ask to try it in school to be told its been under water for 3 weeks so we cant use it [was not told that on phone night previous] so we cant canter or jump it not that there was any jumps visable to speak of anyway.

So i get on third pony which sticks its head in the air and starts snorting and threatening to rear so by this point i had enough and went back to the quiet one.

Opened its mouth it has 2 molars and 1 pre molar missing and 2 black canines with swollen and inflamed gums around the base of the teeth supposed to be 10yrs old the pony in question.
Looked at the feet had 2 front shoes on which were too big for the feet when we asked YA why it was shod like this were told its due to be re-shod so i argued the fact its feet were too small for the shoes and if anything its feet should be overgrowing they shoe if in fact it needed re-shoeing.
Asked YM if it needed corrective shoeing answer was no.
So we get back on it to take it for a canter down the lane it played up a bit and did a buck with f so i get back on it and trotted it a little way then asked it to canted it did a massive squeal and threw its back end up.

So we get back to yard and say not happy to pay £3,400 for a pony with bad teeth and shoes and has bucked and messed about with us baring in mind it was in mind for a 6yr old girl just coming off lead rein.
YA then got very defensive saying its all maintinence having horses teeth done ect so i argued the point that the pony had 2 manky teeth and 3 missing which to me indicates a much older pony that 10 and you expect a new pony to come with teeth intact.
Then she said something about it needed corrective shoeing when told that was a different story to what her boss told us she got very hot under the collar.
We then went on to ask about all the ponies where they came from ect and she basically did not have a clue.

Needless to say we left very annoyed as none of theese ponies were as they had been advertised and frankly they would of wound anybody in who did not know how a healthy set of teeth and shoes should look like.
It strikes me as the sort of place where unexperienced people are told if they want a horse they need a bombproof one so they google in bombproof and thats what they see so they go and buy theese things on the pretence they have a good horse [and only a 7 day exchange policy too]

So i would never advise anybody to visit or purchase from there the so called yard itself was not a yard just a few boxes on a runway.
I have also lodged a complaint with trading standards the place outraged me so much bunch of cowboys trying to sell so called safe ponies with health ailments to inexperienced people i have come across some places in my time but that has annoyed me the most.

Sounds like a complete nightmare, for the poor ponies as well as prospective buyers. I am glad you reported them - let us hope something can be done.

It is going to be investigated just the lack of care towards the horses and people wanting to buy for the prices they ask for them and the way they are advertised you expect them to be 100% and have all teeth accounted for and decent shoes on.

Well done you for going there

had you not, you would not have spotted the conditions these ponies are in and also that the ponies are being advertised falsely.
You were quite right to inform trading standards as from what you have said on here none of the ponies you inspected matched their description as bombproof.
I would report the matter to the RSPCA as well as surely there are rules governing animals that are used for business under the animal welfare act. These ponies are being used for a business as the yo is a horse dealer.
I find it really saddening to hear of cases of neglect like that. it is no wonder the pony with the bad teeth chucked his head up as the bit was probably causing discomfort

It's also a shame as there are good dealers out there who not only care very much about the horses and ponies they sell but also ensure that their descriptions are accurate so as not to mislead the buying public.
It is a shame that the minority ruin it for the majority in some cases.
I hope you have better luck in finding a pony and that the place you visited gets a proper investigation and inspection by the relevant authorities.

well she has actually bought a pony today from a private seller who is doing part ex for the one she has atm so its worked out for her.

Just disgusted me how they can get away with falsly advertising them like that.

I agree marmite it's an outrage but hopefully now you have made the relevant people aware investigations can take place. I would suggest trying to follow up though and make sure that trading standards take you seriously as they can be a little lax as I had a friend who had dealings with them over another matter and he had to persevere.
I'm glad you got a pony though, hope it's a nice one

I'm glad you reported them. Can you say who they are (by pm if you don't want to put it on the thread)? These people are such crooks, the only way decent people can protect themselves, and the more nieve beginners, is to share information and keep each other informed.
