Dealers selling as 'private'

Does this annoy anyone else?

On horsemart, ref: HM822JED1 this person is baltently advertising as a dealer but still says they are 'private'!

Do people on here think that advertising websites have a duty to eek out these people? It really gets my goat, grrr!
 
It's just an attempt to con people and ruins their reputation. IMO a dealer with a good reputation won't mind telling the truth and one which skirts around teh edege of the fact that they are a dealer will have something to hide!
 
Just because they have a few horses for sale doesnt mean they are dealers. They could just have aquired to many and need a clear out or their situation may have changed, money, breakup etc etc.

Ive havent seen that advertiser on lots of occasions, not once actually. I do think they have some nice horses though.

And i know what you mean about dealers selling as private, its rather annoying!

And I always wonder why the horses are still for sale as they look lovely . I'm also a subscriber on their youtube channel

I may be wrong but I think if you sell more than a certain number of horses a year, then you are a dealer - a bit foggy on the specifics though.

Either way, its deceitful and I wouldn't touch any horse from a dealer pretending to be a private owner - if they'll lie about that, what else will they lie about?

Quite! I found this out in a bad experience, this is why I think it should be policed somehow, although that is unlikely and difficult to do.
 
Completely off topic but my name is Saskia as well and thought as it was quite an unusual name I would say hallo.

I guess as there is no definition of dealer on the website it is up to people to decide if they are dealers or not - someone who buys a few horses occassionally to sell on might not classify themselves as a dealer even if they are.
 
Whats the problem either way?.
You try the horse throughly and if you like it have it vetted. If your not happy DONT BUY THE HORSE.
If they say it jumps ,see it jump, if they say it loads see it load. If they refuse DO NOT BUY THE HORSE.
If they won't let you have it vetted DO NOT BUY THE HORSE.
Don't matter to me if I buy off private sellers, dealers, gypsies or the man in the moon. It's the horse I am interested in.
 
I agree with you completely. But if they'd doped it when you try it, you're not really trying the 'real' horse are you, if you know what I mean. But then, that can be a private person or a dealer so going off a bit aren't I?! Oh dear!
 
In law it is easy to prove someone is a dealer. All you need are copies of adverts. As a dealer the purchaser has more protection however even private sellers must tell the truth and if they don't then again they are asking for trouble.

If one is done then it is very easy these days to take these people to the small claims court and get a full refund with costs however most people don't bother.
 
Is there not something about the legalities of buying from a private sale versus a dealer I seem to remember seeing something somewhere. I dont understand why if someone is a genuine honest dealer and there are plenty who are they dont just admit it there is nothing wrong with being in business just in lying about it.
 
Maybe they are selling a horse for someone else in which case it is essentially a private sale I think. It is how a lot of dealers used to get round the Trading standards rules. Not sure if it is still the case but someone i knew got stung big time in this way. (By a top competitor and her instructor, at the time, I hasten to add.
