Dealers swapping horses?

I'm just wondering how this works.
I was interested in a mare advertised for sale but didn't end up viewing because I decided she was a bit far away. The dealer checked out as not dodgy as far as I can see. She is still listed for sale by that dealer but has also been listed by another dealer about 100 miles away. Definitely the same horse - she has an unusual distinguishing mark although she has changed height and the price has gone up by £2000.
So does this happen a lot? Will the horse actually move or does the second dealer just advertise her & take a cut? Do dealers swap unsold horses or do they buy & sell from each other?
(To be honest I'm feeling a bit maternal towards this girlie. She looks very sweet & I'd definitely have gone to view if she'd been a bit further north.)

As far as Facebook stalking (!) can reveal the first dealer isn't dodgy enough to have an obvious reputation.

I am safe anyway due to distance but thank you for the advice.
This one tempted me but I have a "no overnight stays for viewings" rule now, unless I'm looking at more than one in a trip. I''ve ben riding nearly 60 years but I have only ever re-sold a horse I bought once & doing it upset me. With hindsight I realize I mis-bought that one because the very long journey had put a lot of psychological pressure on me to try to like the horse when actually it was unsuitable.

It could be the two I follow and though I have not bought from them they both seem good dealers. One took on selling for the other when they could not do viewings themselves.
Dealers or private buying all need a little luck .

Yes I know of two who do this, although in that case they both sell slightly different types of horse - so depending on what the horse is like one or other of them will advertise it. But they also sometimes advertise for each other.

ETA I have never seen them vary the price or genuine location of the horse though, that's always consistent and fully disclosed. In your case, the differences in advertised price would have me worrying.

Have you posted on the dodgy dealer fb page? You can post anonymously and it's better to do you own request rather than just doing a search to see if either of the names pops up. Many people are afraid to post their own story due to threats and harassment by dealers and their mates but they will pm you if you ask your own question. It's a very common practice of some of the most dodgy dealers to advertise and sell each others horses. If it was already returned by a buyer to one dealer they can avoid disclosing this by sending it to be sold by a friend. Changing the price and height would cause me to be suspicious. The dodgy dealer admins also keep a track of the multiple other names used by dodgy dealers and names of their mates who advertise for them.

Dealers do exchange horses… different clientele, don’t want them hanging around. Some are dodgy, some aren’t.

Also if a horse is on sales livery sometimes the client will pull the horse and send it somewhere else. For example, if they start somewhere where they are paying livery and then the horse isn’t selling they may send to a commission only sales livery.

I saw one recently on FB, a distinctive coloured horse, was advertised as must go with a dealer in the West Mids then a week later appeared at another in Scotland!

It would make me slightly wary of the horse but anything advertised a prolonged period of time I am wary of.

So I Googled the second dealer, ( near York) & she comes up with a lot of good reviews including a HHO thread from a few years ago, with good feedback.
Not going to ring her - would just be tyre kicking. Hope she finds the wee love a good home (& soon so I can stop chewing it over!)

If it's Becky O Neil I would just phone her and say, I like this horse but I've seen it advertised elsewhere and it worried me. She's very honest and from my experience won't mind you phoning just to ask about it. She has a good reputation so it's unlikely to be with her for long.

Please be very very careful, I was well and truly done by a well known Scottish dealer some time ago now. Poor horse was buted up to the eye balls to hide a serious back injury. Also given bags of feed laced with bute. He was fully 5 stage vetted and tried out. Im not the only one to be done by her either, there are a good few more sad cases. My own vets tell me its sadly happening all the time.

How dreadful for you. Thank you - yes I am being very careful.
