Hi, I'm asking on behalf of a friend if anyone can recommend a dealer who may part exchange.

She has a nice young mare who she is currently jumping British Novice but she is a bit too sharp for her, she is a very honest, careful mare so would do well in the showjumping environment but my friend whilst a capable sj would like to do a bit of xc too and finds her too sharp to contemplate that. She realises she will have to put a lot of money in to p-ex but is finding it difficult to source a dealer who would even consider p-ex.
We are in Devon, so the closer the better although I suspect most will be "up country".

P Ex may be the easy option on paper but there needs to be a horse she wants in the dealers yard as well as a dealer willing to part ex, she is likely to lose out financially on any deal and may end up with a horse that is no more suitable and has in theory cost a fortune. Unless the mare has issues she would be in a far better position by selling privately then having cash in hand to look for another horse, we are coming to the end of the season for eventing so she is unlikely to be ready to compete a new horse until next spring which gives time to sell and spend time looking for the right horse rather than making do with whatever the dealer is offering.

Yes we know all that and its not ideal in any shape or form but she has no facilities whatsoever and sales livery can become very expensive. She's quite impatient and now she's decided to sell then she would rather move her on sooner rather than later.

Thank you. I've already mentioned John Whinnet to her as quite a few people in our area have had nice horses from him but not heard of Dales Sport Horses, so will look them up.

I've recently done this, yes you will loose out financially, but it certainly cuts out the hassle. She may have to be patient if she has strict criteria though.

I visited the dealers twice and just happened to get lucky on a batch of irish horses that had just come over, we were looking for a youngster though.

Tbh impatience could be the reason she has a horse that is not suitable for her!! Dealers assume that there is a problem if you part ex through them..
