Hi All,
The time has come.. I'm officially on the hunt for my 1st every pony:D
feeling rather excited and proud as i will be buying it myself with my own money.
Mum and dad have thought about it long and hard and even though i'm sitting my GCSE's next year so some would say its not the best time, its a good escape to take my mind off things, all costs have been worked out, we have a yard with a place waiting and reserved ready for us to arrive.

We are based in Hertfordshire and are looking for some dealers in the South-East region.Mums friend is taking to me one next year as she is horsey' un-like my parents and its a place were she buys her horses from, they are generally not in good condition from this particular place, the horses she has had from there have been underweight and in some cases ill, she knew this, still got them and with a bit of TLC they are all lovely healthy happy horses.

I don't have a hugeeee budget, and am just looking for a basic iccle pony! for schooling, hacking, local shows and maybe a few tiny jumps.

Can anyone recommend me dealers in the South-East or either ones to stay away from:eek:
Thank you
Ps. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

We can't name dealers on here publicly so expect to be PMed. There are definitely some to stray away from, in my opinion as a first time novice buyer I would be extremely careful buying from a dealer. Obviously you can get great ones but it's very easy to be sucked in and ultimately be sold a dangerous or lame etc horse that certainly wouldn't be useful as a first pony!

Take a look at private ads first, see if there's anything you like. You're more likely to find a good first pony this way, as in reality I don't know many people who would willingly sell their beloved first pony to a dealer.

I'm not local so don't know many (I certainly know of ones to avoid though), but my reccomendation would be to try privately first. This dealer your friend is taking you to doesnt sound suitable for buying a first pony from..!

Huge alarm bells ringing at the sound of the dealer your friend is taking you to...if most the animals from there have been underweight...they could have all sorts of probs that with the greatest respect you should not be having to deal with for your first pony...please try local ads even pony club & local riding clubs as many good ponies tend to stay within pony club as they are thoroughly known & will have a solid dependable reputation. I would steer well clear of that dealer as well as others..you want to find a family that love their pony to bits and maybe can't afford to keep him, which is the only reason they are selling...they will bend over backwards to ensure pony goes to the right home & you may well end up with the best bargain ever,do not assume you will be getting a deal via the dealer route...they are afterall businessmen/women & at the end of the day pound notes is their number one priority. The right pony is out there waiting for you now! Have a look on NFED too and there is a lovely forum hamlets house full of natives & native lovers who will be able to guide & advise you & they are are really lovely bunch good luck & merry christmas xx

I agree the purchase of your first pony would be far better if you can find a nice genuinely outgrown pony from a private home.

Buying a pony in poor condition with no history from a dealer is a big risk and they can change for the worse once home and in good condition.

Have a look on some websites like the PC one to see what is available in your area.

What type of pony are you looking for? Height/budget etc. What sort of thing you want to do with pony?

Someone on here might know of something that suits you :)

If you want something that is basically nice but needs a little work I know of (And it's not mine!) a 7yo Palomino Arab 13.3(ish) mare who is sweet and tolerant and needs bringing back into work after a foal. I don't suppose she's well schooled but she is registered with AHS and some Palomino society or other and is under four figures including her tack and rugs. She's in a private home in Cambridgeshire. I do know she hacks out fine with lorries, tractors etc.
