On Monday I am sending my best friend to you.

Frankie, is a chesnut gelding with two white socks and a blaze, he came into my life 20 years ago and I am so sorry that at the grand old age of 32 we are going to have to part.

Please keep him warm, please keep him fed, please give him a big grass meadow with lovely friends to keep him company. Please let him feel no pain and please let him be at peace.

And if you return him to his former self, he loved to hunt, give him big hedges and ditches to jump.

He is my best friend, he was there through every life hurdle I faced, let him face this new life just as kind, honest and strong as he faced the last.

Keep him for me untill I come someday to take him back. Make sure he knows he was loved, and still is. He is as brave as a lion, he took care of me everyday, now please, I ask you to take care of him.

I can never thank you enough for giving him to me, I just hope you'll give him back one day.

As you say, 32 is a grand old age. It sounds as though Frankie has had a lovely life with you, I'm sure that he knows that he is loved.
The best owners are the ones who make the hardest decisions.

Thank you, like you say it is the hardest decision I have ever made. He is such a beautiful horse, with like many the most beautiful soul.

What a beautiful post. So sorry, but he is obviously so loved, what a lucky horse. Every wish for a peaceful day tomorrow. If only they could all have such a life and such an end x ((hugs)).

You've just made me cry. The love you feel for him is so obvious from your words. It sounds like he has had the most splendid life with you right up to the end. Thinking of you and Frankie.

I'm so sorry you're losing your wonderful sounding Frankie, he sounds amazing. And the beautiful post a great tribute to him.

Beautiful. Lovely words to say about a much treasured friend, and i'm sure, if he could, he'd say them right back. Its a horrible decision to make, but they deserve that final act of respect after lifelong companionship. Good luck for tomorrow, my thoughts are with you both.

God saw you getting tired and a cure was not to be, So he put his arms around you & whispered come with me. With tearful eyes we watched and saw you pass away, Although we love you dearly we could not make you stay. A golden heart stopped beating, hard working hands at rest, God broke our hearts to prove to us he only takes the best.

Best wishes for Monday, you have all my sympathy, hugs from someone who has felt your pain x

Rebecca hun those words were beautiful. What a lovely loved life youre frankie had and now you have shown the greatest act of love you can show. Take comfort that youre time together was beautiful and youre memories will stay in your head and your heart. My thoughts are with you - be strong but allow youre tears to flow when the time is right.
You are so brave and my arms are round you with a virtual hug xxxx Carol

Beautifully written, your love for him comes through in every word. May God also be kind to you on Monday and give you the strength to cope with losing your friend in the kindest way he possibly can.

What a beautiful post from the heart. How lucky you were to have 20 years together. RIP your lovely boy

When we lost a horse at our yard recently, some lovely HHOers shared this poem with me. I think it's beautiful, I passed it on the the horses owners who said it helped a little. I hope it helps you too. Be thinking of you tomorrow. x

Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....
