Do you reckon this prolonged cold weather will have killed off any worms that are in the field?

We moved yards at the start of this cold spell and I would normally have poo picked the field to get rid of the previous inhabitants poo asap but its all welded to the ground and thats only if you can find it under the snow.

Obviously D will be worm counted and then wormed as appropriate come February so will get my answer then. Just curious really.

If I remember rightly it doesnt kill the eggs as such just slows/halts there development to larvae. for roundworm types they have to go through several stages from eggs to L3 larvae to be infective.

I wouldnt worry about it too much, pick it up when you can and count/treat as normal.

It isnt usually cold enough for long enough in this country to kill anything off but there is a chance this latest weather may have bumped a few on the head.

As far as i can remember without consulting the books
(feeling to lazy to do that

) The cold snap will kill off some types of worm eggs depending on the stage of development but not all.

Some eggs even have an adaption with a antifreeze chemical inside them so the cold simply wont bother them...

Think about it. Countrys in europe and places like the USA still have a worm problem's even though they get cold weather like this a lot.

So nope.Worms are still gonna be around im afraid...some species might take a hit in mumbers nt they wouldnt get wiped out...

I don't know, but it is killing off lots of other nasty bugs out in our fields
