Help me solve my debate!!

I have a 2 YO WB (dad adult height 17.0hh) * TB (mum adult height 15.2hh)

He is currently 2 years 5 months old and standing 15.3hh (bum) 15.2hh (withers)

Now his breeder said he waould make 15.3hh
The dentist however says he will make easily 16.2hh!!

I have had these 2 extremes and everything in between!!

Now I have erd TB's are fully grown by 2 but WB's keep growing up to 6 or 7 YO!!

My other friends TB*WB was growing until he was 5 1/2!!

I know we wont know what he will make until he has made it!! But all suggestions and reasons welcome!!

O yea and the vet guessed 16.1hh!!

Thanks!!

He is with me forever regardless but just curious!!!

Don't know much about this but mine is a BWB and the people I bought him off told me that he was 15.2hh as a 3 year old. I bought him as a 6 year old and he was 16.1hh and still is.

No idea how big ma and pa were as he was imported from Belgium.

agree with ischa and his dentist.

My 3/4tb x hanovarian grew two inches between 3 and 4.

To be fair to his breeder though if you bought him a while ago then he has probably grown more than she anticipated already, likely now she would estimate his final height as taller.

Have you tried the Fetlock to elbow test? Take a lead rope and hold the end at the bottom of the fetlock then with the rest measure it up the leg to the elbow point. hold that measurement at the elbow and with the end thats still at the fetlock bring the rope up to the withers.... (leg to withers ratio) in theory this is how big your horse should get. tried it so many times and almost accurate every time. even on fully grown horses. BTW most horse don't stop fully growing until they are 5 sometimes 7

I just did this test on my new boy (Irish Draught), he is 4 years and I believe he will grow another 3-4 inches. He currently stands at 16.1h, the test I did with the leadrope would bring him to 17hh when he stops growing. Other horse friends have also commented he will finish at around 16.3h - 17hh. So looks like as a rough guide it works :)

Sounds like he should get to around 16.2hh.

I am no expert, but at 2 1/2 he'll be growing for some time yet and I would be surprised if he didn't make another hand or so before he is fully grown.
