Can people please tell me the best of either the decahedron type or the snak a ball type stable toy?

Pro's and Con's in actual use of them?

Is the Likit ball stronger and more long lasting in durability than the Decahedron?

Do the treats fall out the Decahedron too fast as theres nothing inside to stop them?

Which is easiest to fill?

I have a decahedron for my horse (don't use it in the stable as all the food would get lost in the bedding), but in the field she has it daily at lunchtime. She literally turns the whole to the bottom, wiggles it back and forward about 2cm and get out a massive pile of nuts! She can empty the whole thing in about 5-10 mins. Slightly slower than eating out of a feed bowl I guess but not much!

I haven't tried the likit ball but would say go for that if it one or the other.

I have the likit tongue twisler in the stable, which keeps her occupied for a little bit longer!

My horse adores his snack ball! I had to replace the Likit one eventually as the lid broke, now he has a Stubbs one (it's still round but with bumps on so it doesn't roll in a true circle) and he loves that one too - he would rather play with that than eat out of his bucket! I put his balancer and fibre nuts in there, with some hi if to stop it coming out easily. I imagine the decahedron one would be a bit harder but it doesn't take them long to figure out how to rock it in the right way.

I use the decahadron one and fill it with the big fibre nuggets so they don't get lost in the bed and my horse loved that. all the horses on my yard have them. one girl had the likkit one but the lid thing comes off and gets lost in the bed quite often and you can't put the bigger nuggets in so she also got the decadron one. they all play with the toy before they eat theit teas!!

I had read some reports of some snack balls coming apart and having sharp pieces inside, so I bought a decahedron on the grounds it was one solid item. My pony loves it! (or rather, he loves them, as he is now on his third.) Like lizzie's pony, he has learnt to get the hole at the bottom, push the decahedron along and get a long line of cubes out along the floor, so it doesn't keep him amused for hours on end as the advertising says! It keeps him happy for a while though - I put high fibre cubes in with a bit of chaff so the cubes don't come out too fast, and sometimes put a tic-tac mint in as a bonus. I found they used to eventually crack on one corner, but Shires have brought out a new design with "inverted" corners and this seems to be lasting even better than the previous ones.

With the snak-a-ball only a few nuts fall out at a time, with the decahedron they fall out by the handful. Don't really see the point of those ones to be honest!

Mine loves her decahedron. I also like it as when she is in with her door open on a chain so it doesn't roll out like a ball might if given too hard a shove.

Thanks all - I only want to fill it with regular pony nuts or hi fibre nuts, and can't be faffed to mess about with putting chaff in it. Ideally for the bother of filling it, I'd like it to last longer than in a feed bowl and preferably the most of an hour to kill some time when they're stabled in the afternoons.

So sounds like I'd not get on with the decahedrons and the better one for my needs would be the Snak A Ball. Wheres the cheapest place to buy these, anyone seen them on offer anywhere? Online would be good, and free delivery even better!!!!! Thanks.

I got my ball second hand so can't help with that, but I do think you're limited as to what size things will work in it. I've not had trouble so far with conditioning cubes and later his balancer, but I think you'd be limited. Not sure chaff would work for example.

This. Kali worked out really quickly that all he had to do is turn it on it's side and shake it to empty it. He isn't any better with Likkits though . . . if they're hanging, he just shoves them with his face until they thwack him in the head - and then repeats (what can I say, he's a bit speshul).

Mine has a Likit snack ball, it has quite a small hole compared to the decahedron so takes him longer to get all through nuts out.

Just don't do what I did the other day and pick it up and flip it over to carry it by the hole, only for the lid to not be properly secure resulting in an explosion of the nuts all over the floor!

It is also pretty solid and coped with my old loan pony putting his foot on top of it like footballers stand before kick off but have seen decahedrons that are dented

H will also eat from his ball over eating his tea

My TB ignores his feed he loves his snack ball so much. He puts his muzzle on the lid side and squiggles it around so more nuts fall out but it still lasts a while. I just put the cheap H&P grass nuts in it. ISH took a while to figure it out :rolleyes3: but now he's got the hang of it he loves it too but then it's fooooood!

Dave has a decahedron into which I put fibre nuggets. Usually keeps him amused for about an hour if 1/3 full - likes to hoof it full pelt around the school and then snuffle about for the "treasure"!!
