Can anyone recommend decent haynets? Because they are often rolled up in shops its hard to tell and online its hard too. My boy is 15.2 and I like to give him quite a large haynet at night, ideally the smaller holes to make it last longer and i'm down to one haynet now!

I recommend the Shires soft haylage nets to everyone and nobody has been disappointed with them yet. I've had mine for 3+ years and only the rope bit has ever worn out. Net itself is pristine!

Look on ebay for better prices and size ranges, the Shires website seems low on stock
Ah these are the ones I've been looking at! I guess I'd need to go for the largest size for a bigger horse? I dont ever like him running out! is the 30" really tiny as my dartmoor could do with a bigger haynet. What size holes would you recommend as i see they do them in 1", 1.5" or 2"

I use these cheap ones from shires, they have slightly bigger holes which I prefer but can hold a lot!

I like martsnets, they're expensive but they've lasted. They will make them to your specs too.

ETA I bought some from their economy range as well and they seem to be lasting well too, just not the fun colour

They come up small though so order a size bigger than you need

These are great. I've had 2 of these in almost daily use, hung outside, for about 3 years and they are still almost good as new. One I restrung the hanging rope (as prev one was too short) and one got a small tear due to trailing on the ground - which I "sewed" up with baler about a year ago. The 1 inch holes.

I use the 6kg (40") version with the 1.5" holes for a 14.1h cob and can fit a good bit over 6kg in it if I need to, unfortunately I don't think I've seen the small ones in person. They aren't stretchy like some haynets so if you got your pony the 40" version it wouldn't hurt, it will all just be looser if the net is less full.

The 1" holes seem dartmoor sized to me but friends Connie also copes fine with them. 2" ones look quite big, but some people like them just for the mesh being softer on teeth and don't really want a very slow feed net.

I have the cheaper Shires haylage nets. I restrung my green ones with red rope when on a part livery yard. Both festive AND not possible for others to pinch. 😂

Mine are the 40" ones, and I can get 8kg in them easily.

I tried a Trickle net but horse gave up on it and stopped eating his hay and then I got him a Shires trickle net which was far softer which he was happy with but he lost weight (he's also a pig so the idea was to slow him down a bit). It also didn't take long to put a giant hole in it and then completely defeated the purpose lol. I then got him the Shires red and black giant one as he needs quite a lot of hay was he's got very poor grazing and am very happy with that and so is horse. No holes yet (at this point he had already put a hole in the Shires trickle net one)

Friend of mine was trying to buy the shires soft mesh and accidentally got the shires trickle one and her mare had a huge hole ripped in it inside 24 hours. Immediate refund request and they asked if she wanted a replacement. "Can you replace it with something better constructed" Got a refund right away 😂

wow. It took a good month or so for mine to put a hole in it so I guess I got one of the better constructed ones!

I bought Little Piggy haynets from Amazon recently (my nearest tack shop is 50 miles away on a different island), and they seem to be be bearing up well with 5 my Shetlands. Small holes, and very stretchy.

I have 2" holes as the very small ones can lead to the ponies getting frustrated with the nets which does them no good at all. I find the 2 inch ones are a good compromise, especially if you can split the hay ration into a number of nets

I have the Shires haylage nets

Her mare is a particular menace to be fair. She went through 3 different nets in a week, presumably out of badness as two of them she had for ages.
