Decision HELP please!

I have a mare that i have produced from a 4 year old, she is a fantastic working hunter always in the ribbons and is a xc machine and as safe as houses. She is now 8, and probably too sane for me. I want to jump higher and 1.10m is her limit, i would be asking too much to jump higher and not fair. I ride another horse for a lady that she pays for me to compete. She now wants to sell him and has given me first refusal.
He is a cavalier two for joy son, i've rode him over a year now and know his quirks. He can jump the moon if faced and a fab xc horse. He is younger and flatwork needs work, but my mare took years to develop correctly as i bought her very weak.
It would break my heart to sell my mare but know its for the best and have a 3mth old colt foal out of a grand prix stallion to produce in a few years. I guess im writing this and know my answer but would like to hear other peoples views before i jump in :-(

Sell! If you want to go 'higher' you will need to find a partner who can take you 'higher'. Selling on is always hard but you get over it :)

You could always loan/lease your mare. Anyone would snap up the chance to ride a horse like that. If you do loan/lease her then at least you are aware of how she is getting on and are in control of assuring her a secure future.
 
Your mare is lovely. Something with her sort of class has the best chance of a brilliant home. By bringing her on to be such a well schooled and safe horse, you have done her a huge favour. I bet she will give some lovely person years of fun.

I accualy couldn't do it! It will be to hard and the pain of the missing part... I would soffer so much.:(

But if You think that is the right decision for you and your futur, sell her.

Oh, and Do you not put pad on the gray horse? Or it it a "spactial made fitting saddle"?

Sounds like your mare would be perfect for someone who has lower aspirations, you would be doing that someone a huge favour by selling her to them. With a horse like that it should be relatively easy to find a good home too.
 
Your mare looks gorgeous and if I was looking I would be asking for a viewing! Sometimes we have to move on. Not just with horses but life in general... work, relationships etc. If you feel like she's holding you back and the other horse can take you further then you know what to do. Like OP said, by training your mare correctly, she will get snapped up in no time by a lovely new mummy or daddy.

Wow! She's lovely and with her talent and experience I don't think you would have a problem finding a great home for her, she is at a good age too, best of luck! :)

Do you mean numnah? a properly fitting saddle doesn't need a pad!! the reason you see a lot of professionial riding with pads is that their saddles will need to fit onto a number of horses!

Your mare is very nice. Don't undersell her either. 1m 10 is actually well up to most peoples aspirations. In eventing terms it means she would be upto PN or N if she could cope with the more technical fences. She has a proven competition record and should prove straightforward to sell. I have had to sell on a horse I got on very well with but he didn't want to do the job I wanted. 8 is also too young to think about keeping on and loan/leasing - unless you have very deep pockets! Mine went to people who think he is wonderful and he wasn't a cheap horse either.

I deferred selling mine for so long but in the end, Billy sort of fell into my lap (like your Cavalier horse) it all went off so smoothly so I had to see the sale of my previous horse through. The new owners were particularly lovely though!

Good horses with a good record are still selling...
 
Hi everyone, thank you so much for commenting on my post, it really is something i have not undertaken lightly. I think you's are right and then i wonder if my quirky but great jumper is worth selling my mare and then i think someone surely will look after her and enjoy her more than i do (if possible). He has his ways and not much younger than her and his flatwork abissmal, but i think he just takes longer to develop......& he is a man!!
I would rather sell her by word of mouth as i think she would get a more loving home, maybe im wrong...i've never sold before as it does break my heart!
Thanks again & yes her saddle was fitted to her width so dont need much more than a cotton pad but for working hunter i just use a saddle.
