Following last week's post just thought I'd let you know she decided not to hang on to this one... Never mind, get to start over next year. And she can put on a bit of weight over winter hopefully as Missy's had a growth spurt and it's all come off D's topline.

Sorry to hear that that is sad news

Who are you thinking of for her next year?

Awww sorry to hear that.............just keep your focus on 2008. Our old mare had twins and one was pinched.........unfortunately she did not hold on to the second one and after being re-bred she has still not held.............so we are giving up with her until next year as well.................

I don't mind that much, it was a gamble trying this late and I would have been stuck in the same cycle the following year if she'd held. This way I get to do it all properly without being distracted by my wedding hopefully

.

I remember Michael Whitaker being quoted saying Flarepath only produced a foal every other year... do some mares really only do this? As D didn't take in 2005 either, but neither then nor this year have been ideal circumstances, and of course she did actually take this time.

Yep, this istrue. Some mares are 'every other year breeders'. I've worked with a fair few! It's a tad frustrating to say the least! One mare i worked with in the US, was just such and she only EVER concieved in the month of June! So all her babies were May foals. The owner wasn't too fussed as she was a) a Grade 1 winner herself (homebred too) and b) her 1st 2 foals were also Grade 1 winners.

Sorry that she's not in foal hun, but as you say, prob for the best with all your plans. Congratulations btw!!
